An Israeli politician has made a campaign promise to legalize gay marriage if she becomes prime minister in the March elections.

Tzipi Livni made the pledge at a weekly gay party called Dreck in Tel Aviv on Saturday night (21 February).

The Hatnuah party leader will become one of two rotating prime ministers if her coalition with Labor wins.

'Good evening Dreck. There's a chance that on March 20 we'll come to celebrate the end of the period of darkness, racism and discrimination and we'll start a period of light, love and equality,' she said.

'Everyone will have respect and everyone can love and everyone can get married. And that's the state that we want for all of us.'

'Yallah get 'em up!' she shouted as the DJ put on music.

Ireland's PM was in a gay bar four months ago; reductive :thetea:

Well I think it's unimportant that either were in a gay bar; the more important aspect is the "promise for [gay] marriage"; so hopefully if that candidate (Israel) gets elected, they stick to that promise and aren't using it just to gain support

In Ireland's case we're (99%) getting same s-x marriage in May so it was a slightly different scenario (I think he was attending his party's LGBT group Christmas event)
