So trying to a--lyze the lyrics now... it almost sounds like this song is her way of legitimizing herself to people who think she is unauthentic

"I'm talking bout my generation, talking bout that newer nation, and if you don't like it you can beat it baby, beat it baby.

You never liked the way I said it, If you dont get it then forget it, Cause i don't have to ****ing explain it"

and then the chorus is like.... **** you, my boyfriend is in a band... i sing lou reed's music, i get down to beat poetry, what else do you want from me? All in relation to her boyfriend, who.. ya know? shes actually cooler than he is, so i don't get why you're dissing me. I'm a brooklyn baby (b---h :hor:

What are some other people's thoughts of the songs meaning?

I'm probably so far off :toofunny: This song is amazing though. Trying not to spoil myself.

私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

It's a really nice song, I just don't feel like it is up to the magic of songs on Born to Die.

I do miss the shrill/airy high register that she used to display on Born to Die and the rest of the songs on it.

She doesn't really do the airy effect anymore. If that makes sense. Take a look at the chorus during performances of Born to Die nowadays compared to ones back then. She does it all in full voice now, which does make her sound more powerful instead of the delicate falsetto of the studio version. However, I felt that the airy falsetto from the first album was very unique and it saddens me they she hasn't done it that much recently.

Does anyone else understand where I'm coming from or am I just typing gibberish? xD

Do you guys think it's just a personal preference of her's or could it be, for example, an effect from her smoking habits?

I get what ur coming from. I think that her deep voice is beautiful, but her most appealing quality when it comes to vocals from my first impression of her was her amazing upper register/falsetto and airy vocals. Its still her most appealing quality vocally to me :) Every note like this in BTD and Paradise is pure ecstasy to me xD

UV as an album seems to have more vocal production effects on it, but i hope it has more of this.

I dont think its that she can't anymore due 2 smoking, she certainly can... This isnt gaga pre-Fame -- post-Fame, xD (no shade i swear! just an observation) She has said several times before though that she feels like people take her less seriously when she sings like that, and shes not trying to force a low voice anymore, but shes not exactly going as shrill and airy as she naturally sings it seems.

Old Money

Where have you been?
Where did you go?
Those summer nights seem long ago

Pretty When You Cry

All the pretty stars shine for you my love

Am I that girl that you dream off
All those little times you said that i'm your girl

The Other Woman

And she's never seen with pin curls in her hair, anywhere

The Other Woman, you send he pearls and French perfume

Cruel World

Did what I had to do cause it's so far past me now
Share my body and my life with you

It's an okay song but I'm still not enough to convince me to preorder the album.
