We cannot trust people with fire arms because many of us cannot handle desire to use it when anger blinds the eye, which is why mental exam needed before can own a gun. I don't see why it should convince me how good it is to have guns to protect myself instead of demanding the police to ensure my safety and fight crime since they're getting payed tax money to do it. I really don't see how it's good for you to kill an intruder and then live with the thought that you're a murderer for the rest of your life. Maybe that's because to me having a gun is not a right, just like it's not a right to have grenades and nuclear bombs. Why would I want a gun? To protect myself? No thank you, I feel safe enough without a weapon. What am I supposed to protect myself from anyway? Other people with guns? Oh wait, they don't give guns out where I live. Wielding a gun is not a right, but a privilege for those who have been trained to use it for an intended purpose. No more, no less. With each weapon comes a huge responsibility to the one who uses it. When I imagine my neighbours having a gun, I wouldn't feel safe anymore. Yes, I know, there is a background check for buying guns in the US. But what about the 6.6 million guns sold by private sellers in 2012 without any background checks? Frightening, if you ask me. When it comes to weapons that can kill with ease, we cannot allow just anyone to wield them. Even with a background check, we see how easily even children have acess to lethal weapons in the US. I know that shooting incidents are happening even in countries were gun laws are extremely tight. People will always find ways to get things they are not allowed to have. I cannot feel safe in a country where it's easier to get a gun than a beer. And the number of gun deaths per 100,000 citizens don't lie. Countries where it is easy to get guns have much higher death rates caused by firearms than those where guns are either banned or can only be acquired under strict regulations.
