StrawberryBlond 14,828
Ugh, when will these journalists stop bringing up Madonna? Gaga's moving further and further away from those comparisons. The whole jazz album and due to peform at the Oscars (Madonna did similar things with the Dick Tracy soundtrack at the same point in her career) is the most Madonna-like thing she's done since she made Judas a single. Madonna's at a completely different stage of her career where it no longer matters if she wins or loses, so it's a pointless comparison. The Katy comparison, though, is certainly understandable. They're not the first to say that she stands for nothing. I think she's the only pop girl out there, along with Rita Ora, who doesn't seem to have a fixed musical personality. She is whoever her songs say she is and has contradicting personalities. It works because whatever personality she's playing, it'll appeal to lots of people, hence, success. But as we've been seeing recently, that strategy is running out of steam real fast. Prism took the same route as Teenage Dream did with fun songs, dark songs and sentimental songs and it had nowhere near the same success. So, maybe with her next album, the paper will be writing about what happened to her. In pop, you can fall off a pedestal in the blink of an eye. Gaga has it in her to come back. I don't think articles like this would be written if people didn't believe that. Popstars like Madonna and Britney got written off year after year, yet they kept coming back. I've got the feeling that Gaga will be no different. People want popstars to fail and get annoyed when they don't, so it's nothing to get worried about. When people stop talking about you, that's when you know you're over. The press buzzed with derision when Xtina flopped with Bionic, but Lotus flopped even harder, yet didn't even register. When you're flopping but nobody cares about it...that's when it's time to worry.
NONONONO 709
I agree with a lot of what is in this article. Gaga really needs to up her game for the next album. Otherwise, it will be a definite nail in her coffin. As a pop star, Gaga made it difficult for herself. Gaga did too much too soon and people got bored of it. What worries me about Gaga working with RedOne again is that this is not 2008. If they put stuff like Poker Face out there again, it won't work. People will just say she is thirsty and looking to get a hit, which will backfire.
vertigostick 2,444
This **** is just RIDIC. It's the MEDIA who pit her against Madonna and decided back in '10 "Wow that girl ain't playing, she has a lot of potential, she could be the new Madonna! Has Madonna lost her crown???" bla bla bla. The same stupid motherf****** then went "She failed, she couldn't take the crown, she's over!" when Gaga started selling less and wasn't the most talked about popstar anymore. But it's all just an artificial creation OF THE MEDIA, nothing more! EVERY career has ups and downs. 4 years into her career, Madonna went from selling 20 million albums to 5 million. A few years later she came back stronger than ever. Katy Perry has had quite a constant run until now (especially singles-wise) but "Prism" is still a commercial step back in comparison to her second album... It happens to everybody! No one has managed to stay the "most-talked-about" or "biggest-seller" for more than 4 or 5 years in a row. That's the way pop music works. Any serious journalist knows that. Forget that BS. To wrap it up: seriously, HOW on Earth could Gaga "outdo Madonna" 6 years into her career, when the other one has been around for 3 decades???? Give the gurl a ****ing break!!!! freebit 6,240
They'll say she's over, but they just happy to use this trash article for clickbait. Fans from 2008 (like myself) know she was written off from day one as a one-hit-wonder. Then she was written off when Alejandro didn't go #1 on pop. Then she was written off when Judas flopped. Then she was written off when Applause was overshadowed by Roar. And now she's over because her engagement wasn't big enough news. Same. People have been trying to write her off for years. I've never understood why people tend to be so nasty about her for no good reason (and even seemingly innocuous people, like Joanna Newsom). I understand not liking her, but writers and blog enteries like this are so biased, like even trying to come for her engagement.
JustPokeHerFace 2,564
So if no one cared about this announcement, why did a photo of the announcement get over 2 million likes, over 800 news articles, and a bunch of press on news shows? And if no one cares about her, she wouldn't be performing at the Oscars. Bye.

Judas Oyster 1,914
Gaga can actually still stay with her artistry and as long as she promotes stuff, things will never get too ugly. When we grow older we're gonna be like old Madonna fans...
Maleficent 6
You are all so petty. This author did not saying anything terrible about Gaga. This is an opinion, and I do agree with a lot of it.

HighwayGuy 1,498
This article makes it seems like Madonna is still slaying when her last hit was what, 10 years ago? This author is definately old
FGGrayson 9,670
Now, her off-brand engagement to Taylor Kinney (he proposed with a heart-shaped ring on Valentine's day!) is barely news. She’s duetting with Tony Bennett and it’s unclear who is benefitting more from the collaboration. Look at "ARTPOP." The message of the album is the idea of Gaga as art. (Like, very literally: “Pop culture was in art, now art's in pop culture in me.â€) Gaga didn't fail because she is inauthentic -- all pop stars are -- but because she refused to embrace the reality of her act. As an icon of the millennial pop, Gaga may never truly be "over," but until she can channel the authentic inauthenticity we see in Perry and Madonna WTF did i just read!! Where Gaga steeped herself in meaning and pretension, Perry stands for nothing. Her songs are not anymore about her than they are about the 13-year-old girl in Tulsa who really does feel like a plastic bag. As Rich Juzwiak wrote after her Super Bowl performance, "[it's unclear] Katy Perry has anything to say, any unique perspective, any capacity to challenge or surprise, any persona beyond vaguely goofy and occasionally sentimental." Perry is a sort of a vessel for the pop-culture machine, where Madonna imbues artistry into the artifice of her persona, but both embrace the manufactured nature of their stardom. Yet, they want her to be like Katy Perry & write **** like this, like WTF!! I dont want GAGA doing that!!: 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻

DeleteMyAccount 11,881
The main reason she isn't "the biggest pop star in the world" anymore is because of the media. The GP isn't on Gagadaily. They listen to what these biased "journalists" say. Thus Gaga's decline. Of course ARTPOP wasn't a huge success, but the media shouldn't play dumb. They've been hounding her since BTW came out...
