In a crisis European powers would have to join forces (I guess EU would make that easier to happen) and prevent them from gaining more areas. And Europe is smaller with more people. Realistically though, as soon as they touch a European nation literally all of Europe + US + allied Asian powers would run to destroy them. They wouldn't make it far at all. They'd be delusional to attempt any kind of conventional campaign, and unfortunately for them, that's all they can do.
