:rip: working with Jeff Koons is a pretty big deal. He tends to only make sculptures of Michael Jackson and.... Oh yeah Lady Gaga.

She had the most famous and successful artists of our age design her album cover, create a sculpture of her and allow her to use his Gazing Ball. That sort of endorsement is incredible.

Elton is a legend, I know she has performed with him before but it isn't something to take lightly.

Having her work with Robert Wilson displayed in The Louvre might just be the greatest honour she has ever received in her career. She really achieved new heights during ARTPOP, it just doesn't look that way if you have confined her purely into a pop star.

It's not like a #1 record was a complete disaster of an album either, it isn't her greatest performance and it can definitely be considered an underperformance for her standards.

You could call ARTPOP a failure, to be fair the management was very messy, but only if you consider her career in the same way you would Katy Perry's.

It seems bizarre that somebody created a flying dress, was featured in The Louvre, worked with Jeff Koons and filmed at Hearst Castle and people think that they are doing poorly because they didn't have a #1 song on the Billboard charts like Katy.

people are brainwashed by charts she achieved much things as an artist not much as a popstar

Gagsus is coming to not only save Pop music, but humanity as well. Let's pray they accept her Aura and godliness this time around instead of be scared of it/trash it/reject it a la the masterpiece that is ARTPOP.

Her image is getting cleaner and people are criticising her less with theses appearances, for sure. But it still really depends on the quality/timing of the music she puts out, and it's always been that way.

She's just having a good month. Let's not set ourselves up for disappointment.

i wish it was for the music
It is, though. Yes, she's getting a lot of press for the engagement, but even without that, there's the one-two-three punch of Grammy / Salute / Oscar performances. The Oscars will be a big deal -- huge ratings, and she'll stand out much more as one of the few performers.

It's just disappointing to see from this fanbase.

No shade to Katy, although she admittedly isn't my cup of tea, she is a brilliant pop star. Her videos are cheesy but reach a very general demographic, child and parent friendly with music that also appeals to the wider youth market.

Lady Gaga is more than just that though and it strikes me as odd to measure their success from the exact same criteria. Gaga was in the damn Louvre! I feel like a broken record but it seems like people here really don't understand how big that is - the home of the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo! But Katy Perry is "on top" because she scored two #1 singles with Prism? umm kay.

Meanwhile Gaga is recording with Tony Bennett, still has a massive fanbase around the world and is achieving things her contemporaries could only dream of.

ARTPOP might have been a minor bump in her pop career, but she is still very much on top.

No. I still don't think anyone outside the Internet cares.

My grandma saw she was engaged on the NEWS last night. Like where they discuss world politics and everything? So... you're wrong :emma:

She has always remained on top. Record sales are not the only measure of success.

During ARTPOP she got the honour to film at Hearst Castle (where commercial shooting is banned), she had work featured in The Louvre, she worked with Jeff Koons (who sold the most expensive work by a living artist), she worked with Marina Abramovic, she sang with Elton John and The Muppets, was invited to perform in space and worked with TechHaus to create Volantis.

She then released a Jazz album with the most acclaimed, respected and successful Jazz singer alive right now.

Don't let the critics, with their pure pop music goggles on, fool you. Lady Gaga is very much on top of her game and has achieved far more than her pop contemporaries. She branched out and achieved more, personally, during ARTPOP than she ever has before.

AMEN TO THIS!!!!!!!   :worship:  :tea:

I don't mean to sound rude, however, the majority of this fanbase had no idea who Jeff Koons or Robert Wilson or Marina or Inez & Vinoodh was until Gaga worked with them. :air: My point being that, Gaga entered the game as a pop star, and if it is truly about the music, all of these other successes are purely related to the persona she has created. I think it is fair for many in this fanbase to want to see commercial success again because it shows she still is interested in being successful with the general public. Probably the biggest failure of ARTPOP was that it only achieved half of it's message: the original message being that Gaga wanted to put at art at the forefront of pop culture, and bring the underground to the masses (before she started saying ARTPOP was just a clusterfvck of her wanting to release pain lol). Gaga did achieve artistic success with all of these high brow artists but no teenager in middle America payed any attention. That's why the SXSW Festival was so controversial and blew up. Gaga did something she knew would garner the attention of the mainstream through the act of vomit and the song Swine, but made hundreds of thousands of people hear the name Millie Brown....that is truly ARTPOP. And it was the one remarkable moment of the ARTPOP era that people talked about. If Gaga wants to accomplish bringing art and authenticity back in the music, she can't just rely on her persona....she has to do what she did with The Fame Monster: entertain and shock the crap out of the general public by using what they like in pop, and sneak in elements of things they haven't or wouldn't see because they wouldn't normally pay attention to Jeff Koons. I think she has recognized that, though. She is doing alot right now to warm up to middle America, and I think she is going to blast everyone with something new and interesting once she is secure as "loveable" again.

I can grantee that the next album will do better than ARTPOP. We literary had 0 members of the gp support ARTPOP. Her exposure to a more mature and classy audience will no doubt gain their support. I want Gaga to focus on a young adult audience as well and have songs that they can relate to. Her teen audience is so unpredictable and will want gimmick over talent most of the time. If we get a emotionally powerful pop song from Gaga such as All Of Me or Stay With Me she will be on top no doubt. I feel Gaga flopped in the pop genre but then again Gaga's talents are so diverse so she can always stay relevant unlike many celebs who don't have the luxury of diversity that fade out.
