JoeMo 3,860
I preferred artrave to the BTWB but the monster ball will always have a special place in my heart www.youtube.com/jmremixes
GVGV 6
The artRave was nothing less of spectacular! We have to remember that Gaga had the hip injury, and can't use these huge stages that require a lot of moving around/technicalities. She made up for that by having the runway, the quick wig changes. Also for those saying that the performances at the show had no meaning, ARTPOP was made to be a simple, fun, dance-able album. You aren't supposed to sit there and ponder the meaning of the song, just dance and have fun!
Kayla 7,595
I prefer Monster Ball and think BTWB had a much better stage production, but I think Gaga specifically chose the kind of stage she did for ARTPOP to have the focus be different. BTWB was more theater, artRAVE was meant to be a rave- the focus wasn't supposed to be on the stage, the focus was the crowd. Hence, the catwalks, the energy, lack of a "story," confetti, etc. If she would have had something like the BTWB castle on the stage or the videos from TMB your attention would have shifted to the stage, which is not where she wanted your energy to be directed. This. Gaga probably went with a more fun theme for the artRAVE because she was going through so much trouble. Channeling "Just Dance," I see! :P
Ronk 14,762
I was in the front row at artRAVE, and it was spectacular, beautiful, and exciting. I made this video from my seat. https://vimeo.com/100648495 I live outside the space time continuum.

2007 5,291
BTWB stage was more epic and iconic, but tbh I looked more boring, the art rave little bubble was full of life, a projector screen, lasers and lights, C'mon! And What was for the Moster ball? All I remember was ladders, but the tableaux were everything :legend:
Bat 6,162
TMB > BTWB > ArtRave BTWB had a very emotional and warm atmosphere and TMB was her peak and I loved every minute of that show, besides nostalgias sake.
blacklistedd 599
I mean honestly I was in the front row on the floor at MSG in NYC, and the set itself looked very poorly built. It looked like styrofoam. You could see lines in it too. It had no color, no life, just plain white. Like clay. It looked very cheap. I had more fun at the Monster Ball, which was a little better put together in my opinion, and I never got to go to the Born This Way Ball because of the cancellation, but I think everyone can agree that the stage and production of that show blew away the artrave and all her other tours. Idk... the artRave just felt cheap. Does anyone feel how I feel? Maybe it's because I was right in front of the speakers so it was blaring and I couldn't hear Gaga singing that well over the insanely loud speakers and I also didn't get to see all the lights and stuff, which im told is intense. Of her tours its her lamest aesthetically for sure (set design, costuming, concept). I don't agree that it literally looked cheap as if it were made out of styrofoam, thats some gay pop stan exaggeration imo. But it did seem whatever to me. The Monster Ball had those perfect interludes and intro and the set changes may have not been like mindblowing visually but they were good. The Born This Way Ball set was dope as ****, granted the castle obstructed your view depending on where you sat but it was still dope (the only thing that bugged me about that tour was that there were no interludes but thats nitpicking). So idk, I agree in terms of set design it was wack and I honestly hated the whole rave concept because I felt as though she was a few years too late to jump on that bandwagon. It was like really? Its dying out and you're covering this topic now? But I mean whatever. Ultimately I saw Lady Gaga live again and had a dope time. But its definitely her lamest tour. Imo her best tour so far was The Monster Ball 1.0. Seriously I love everything about the first version of the monster ball from her costumes, to the set, to the interludes, just everything. The Monster Ball 2.0 and The Born This Way Ball are on the same level to me (although she looked better during TMB imo). Artrave was fun but definitely bottom rank. ARTPOPSYCHOLOGY 6,270
This is a typical "fanbase" thread. At the BTWB, people complained about the lighting. At the Monsterball the fans complained about a cheap looking set. It's one thing to respect another monster's opinion, but to say the set looked like "styrofoam" because it was just white is ignorant. That was the point of this show and era: that she is a shapeshifter and takes on many forms which she manifested in her tour set. We know what the set was supposed to resemble, and it's quite obvious the set was white so the lighting could illuminate the set in different colors (as other intelligent monsters noted), which it obviously did. That catwalk was the most innovative thing I have ever seen in my life, and the experience was absolutely amazing. The ONLY criticism I had about the show was me wishing she utilized more props (i.e, the elevated monster paw) and made some of the performances more interesting. But this tour is not comparable to her other tours which is exactly what she goes for. To say the tour looked cheap when you know damn well as a "monster" she put her heART and soul to this production, broke from her manager, and wanted to carry her own vision throughout, is very disrespectful. drinkmytears 2,332
This thread was so unnecessary. I was front row at the artRave, and honestly maybe that's why you didn't enjoy it. I left the front row to run around and have fun. The set looked flawless in my opinion, didn't notice any of those lines. I do agree it wasn't as strong as past tours, but you didn't go to the BTWB so you can't really make that call. I went to the BTWB, and honestly I had a better time because I went onstage and saw Gaga at the bus+many other things, but I would say the artRave was a more fun show. The costumes and videos were kind of weak, but the staging and lighting were out of this world.
