Here's a piece from their FAQ: Q: How do I know the information you've presented is accurate? A: We don't expect anyone to accept us as the ultimate authority on any topic. Unlike the plethora of anonymous individuals who create and send the unsigned, unsourced e-mail messages that are forwarded all over the Internet, we show our work. And unless those questionable things are cleared from the source/site itself, I am more inclined to believe this. For now. Unless something else comes along that irrevocably proves this is true without a doubt, which means then Snopes can adjust their judgment, as they do. But I'm not at all convinced it is atm. In other words, I'm going to need much more proof that this is a real testimony and not a site's attempt at getting clicks and/or something to paint all feminists with a terrible light (this one allegedly did this, ergo all who ID as such will do so, that kind of reasoning). Snopes is one of the most highly trusted sites on the internet. It exists for the sole purpose of busting myths that have become viral. This comment goes to show the way in which the media can (and has) easily manipulate(d) the image of feminism. Certain people already have a predisposition to attaching to negative portrayals of feminists, so when single-sourced, unverifiable, inflammatory stories pop up, people just blindly accept it as it goes to support how they want to feel. It's the same thing that's happened with vaccinations. Or even more similarly, with Islam. It's incredibly unfortunate and leads to the culture of ignorance and misinformation that is so rampant in politics and society right now. Furthermore, the generalizations implied in this post are even more disconcerting, as is the seemingly prideful statement of hatred. This simple, unverified story caused you to react in a way that 1. generalized all feminists 2. intensified your hatred and 3. made you feel justified in your hatred. This is just sad as hell. This is just sad as hell. i say that about the young generations brainwashed ideas of global warming that leave no room whatsoever for flexibility at looking at different angles of stuff if it isnt 100% green the media puts it in such a way that ppl only think of how emmissions are bad for the environment (which is true) but then they become so fanatic that they refuse to even consider being balanced and they shut down every major project that tries to get built now... yes im refering to our last convo Same in the case of feminism. The media is mostly pro-feminist - it's the extremist fringe of feminism that has sadly tarnished it's image, because they are the loudest voices. feminism is about empowering women to be their best and that they shouldnt be placed lower because of their gender but rather be the best they can be in society That's mainstream 1st and 2nd wave feminism which I support.
