The difference between the two songs quality would be the ingredients and presentation. Sam Smith can get on stage and sound exactly like his record, Katy couldn't do that with Dark Horse. She would half-ass the vocals and the lack of that would be made up for with flashy outfits and stupid shark costumes... at that point its not about the music, its about the show. The Grammys are a musical award and there is nothing remotely authentic about Dark Horse- it's a synthetic pop song that was designed to sell singles... Sam Smith wrote Stay With Me with feeling, emotion, and can back up his creation because he can give you that same product on a stage. The tea Something Kats will never understand. [/quote And Katy wrote 'By The Grace Of God', 'It Takes Two', 'Double Rainbow', 'Ghost' without any feels because she's a heartless person. She's so chhildish for writing songs about past love, songs of encouragement and struggles she had during the divorce. She have no feelings. If getting a Grammy is one of Katy's goals, she needs to look at what she is doing that isn't getting the respect she wants from her peers, and change it. If she isn't liking the outcome, it's up to her to change directions. You can't keep doing the same things, the same way, and expect different results. They don't understand that they can't have both. They cling to her for her fun and carefree style but when she doesn't win a serious musical award they get upset. The solution is simple. Release more reputable songs and perform them live to backup the sentiment. The Grammy voters see her as a gimmick. She wants vevo views, single downloads, and buzz-. People could attempt to argue that Gaga does the same, but the argument isn't valid. Gaga performs what she creates - she puts everything behind it, from the video, to the lyrics, to the single art. Yes, their music is the same genre for the most part but like I said before, its the presentation and the ingredients of what made the song. Gaga works on music for the sake of making music- If Gaga was only in it for what Katy is in it for then Cheek to Cheek wouldn't have happened. Not only did Gaga record with Tony, she's touring with Tony. It's a full blown ordeal that is taking away from some time that she could be putting in to album #5(or 6 if you're one of those monsters lol). I guess that's why I just don't find Katy appealing, she's missing authenticity which is a shame because she has so much potential... except for her vocals. I just don't see how she could ever be the powerhouse vocalist that Katy Kats think she is... actually, I think Katy knows her vocal abilities are subpar which is ironic considering her fans think the exact opposite. We can finally agree on something about Katy. But I get the feeling her team wouldn't be happy if she changed direction. She would probably have to go through an ARTPOP situation if she wants to stand up for her own music and sound. Although her team should understand that her the childish gimmicks did not work this time. Roar was successful probably because it was riding off the Teenage Dream era succces and her string of #1's, as for Dark Horse, well the song is actually very good and radio-friendly, besides being different to anything Katy had done, and it peaked #1 even before they released that 'yet another' Nickelodeon-esque video. But look at Birthday and TIHWD, perfect examples that it's time to change that formula!
