Noula Corleone 432
I hope not literally since he is an anti-semitist http://www.welt.de/debatte/kommentare/article136950193/So-judenfeindlich-sind-Tsipras-und-seine-Leute.html This was just a rumor by Thomas Weber, an expected propaganda against the Greek left party (now government). Don't worry, I wouldn't support him if this was true I'm not a ÃŽ£ÃŽ¥ÃŽ¡ÃŽâ„¢ÃŽâ€“Α voter, but even here in Greece we were surprised by his attitude. The most of the Greeks support him, because he isn't like the others (Stournaras, Hardouvelis etc). The most of the Greeks will tell you "I don't like Tsipras but damn, Varoufakis slays". I hope that the result of all this negotiation will be positive.

Mr Josh 3
I hope not literally since he is an anti-semitist http://www.welt.de/debatte/kommentare/article136950193/So-judenfeindlich-sind-Tsipras-und-seine-Leute.html You have to be kidding me right? From his blog: The specific charge against me was (a) a claim that Israel used the blockade of Gaza as part of “a strategy for retaining a large part of the West Bank†and (b) my reference to the ‘security barrier’ as a “concrete monsterâ€. The fact that my comments were supported by reports in the Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz was not deemed a sufficient defence against the charge of antisemitism. http://yanisvaroufakis.eu/2010/12/02/antisemitisms-handmaidens/ Stop calling everyone who's against the Israeli government and its policies an anti-semitist. Luc 4,776
I don´t hate germans, I did´t say that. The things is that the greek debt is impossible to pay in the same way that the deb of Germany was impossible to pay in the past. Europe is a big community and the most powerful country should not oppress the one with problems they should and have to help them. You can offended by what you want, and I can too. And it offends me when people kill herself because they loose her home, when the only source of money of a hole family is the pension of the grandfathers. It offends me when a entire continent is ruled by the president of one country. Europe hast lost nearly 10 years fighting a crisis with the wrongs weapons. Merkel want us to fight a dragon with a wooden sword. We all know that nothing good happens when you sink a country in debt. Thats why the Treaty of Versailles was good, and Europe now needs another. It's always easy to blame the weakest, huh? Stop it with the conspiracy theories. Angela Merkrl only has actual power in Germany, outside of Germany she's as powerful as Hollande. The most powerful person in Europe is probably Mario Draghi, an Italian. The fact that Greece can just stop privatizing and stop cutting shows that Germany has little actual power in Greece. Some European countries made cuts and got into financial stability, like Denmark and Germany. Some countries cut way too harshly like Spain, resulting in a vru high unemployment. Some countries tried to invest in the economy, like France. Cutting seems to be the most effective in a DEBT CRISIS. Especially in the situation of Greece it's necessary to continue with the cuts instead of reversing them. I really hope the best for Greece, but they should invest in the economy in a smart way - firing people who work for the government, privatizing, reforming (for example the labour market), raising the retirement age (which Greece did, thank god) and with the money you save invest in lower taxes, paying off debtand a better infrastructure. Greece IS able to get their debt to gdp below the 60%, but they'll need to keep having primary budget surpluses, and they'll need to make their country more attractive for particulars and businesses. That way the economy will grow and the unemployment will be lower. And ofcourse export will grow thanks to a the lower currency (yaaaaaas Draghi), lower interest (yaaaaas Draghi but noooooo Syriza) and rising exports (growing economy in the rest of Europe) will get Greece out of their misery. Perhaps a Versailles treaty is necessary, but it should be a reward and it should be at a time when countries like Italy can (sort of) afford losing 40 billion. If the Eurozone lets Greece win, nationalism in North Europe and farleft populism in South Europe will grow A LOT and that's not very good at all :deadbanana:
Guille 1,825
If you mean Greece, the only countries you could drag with you is Spain and maybe Italy. The most northern and eastern countries are on Germanys side. I like you Simon but you do love to enhance Germany's power don't you? Spain will become in Greece 2.0 as soon as General Election takes place later this year

Florian 20,017
Its easy to hate Greece in this situation, but let's remember Germany's past economic woes. Their debt has been erased in the past when they made poor economic decisions. Now that they are succeeding and becoming a world economic leader, with that comes responsibility. Britain and America have forgiven debt multiple times in the past. With that said, I think that Germany needs to be tough enough with the debt to make sure that the country's economics are managed properly. Its a balancing act. The past cannot be compared with the present because the economic situation of the European is clearly not the same as it was. Back in the days of the German woes, Europe was in a Golden Age. Since this period, Europe has put up with at least 3 crises. Back in 2009, Greece almost brought Europe down, some countries as Spain, Italy, Portugal or Ireland almost sank and the strongest economies of Europe (Germany, France and the UK) has sacrificed a lot to save the Eurozone and even endangering themselves. Nowadays, the strongest economies I quoted can afford to do not be paid back. They're not as rich as they were when Germany was in trouble. And that's why Germany refuses to erase a part of the debt (which is completely understandable even for Greek nation). The Eurozone has done the part of the deal by giving the money and making risky choice for other countries and it's the Greece's turn to honor it. They can ask for more delay but cannot ask about the sum.

TMP 87
And what do I have to do with things in the past? Like seriously what? You have got the responsability that the past will never be forgotten, and I say that as a German. Bringing a religion near to it's extinction can't be forgotten. You should always keep in mind that people do bad things out of hatred and it makes me sick that nowadays people still haven't learned from anything, not only Auschwitz, but anything that has happened in the history of mankind. Anyway, Greece has signed the paper that has liberated Germany from it's debts from WWII, if they didn't they wouldn't be part of the EU. It's hilarious that they want their 'money back' just now. Where were the people making those claims when the EU saved Greece from bankruptcy? Greece can't stand a chance on the global market when they don't have their tourism and given the behavior of the new government toursim will only decrease more, so they better think twice. Valextra 58
The thing is that Germany gets a lot because of its past. If Italy,Poland or Spain will have a leader like Angela ,no one would hate on them as much as they do on Merkel In my country Germany and Merkel are very well respected positively in general. Obviously Merkel does german interests in first when it comes to Europe, but it's kind normal.
