Luc 4,776
the money Greece wants to borrow... Would it be borrowed through bond purchases? If so, its part of the bond market and they cant just "not pay it back" without defaulting and creating a huge financial meltdown all over their markets (and Europes too). No Country will purposely default unless they absolutely have to Thats probably why they are asking for debt forgiveness. The debt beijg forgiven is the only way they can not pay it back without huge concequences. If they just decided they wouldnt pay it back, it would backfire big time and i think they know that. I think they already did it to private bonds in 2012... but now they want European countries to, but all countries besides Greece opposes it so it has no real future. And anyways, under Syriza the debt would be back in 4 years. Debt forgiveness is an idea to get out of the crisis, but it would have bad effects for the rest of Europe (Spain and Italy would also want debt forgiveness and vote for anti-austerity far left parties, other countries would have a strong rise in far right nationalism). Luc 4,776
Spain is already voting for an anti-austerity left party, debt forgiveness or not. But whether they'll win or not is a diffferent question. If Greece's debt is forgiven, voters in Spain will be much more likely to vote Podemos. Thats the standard. Government debt is issued through bonds Even Central Banks buy Government debt thru bonds What im trying to figure out is if bailout money was different and not through bonds. Because if it was through bonds also, then they cant simply not repay it

Because they need to keep lending money to keep their cpuntry alive. That 175% includes IMF and Eurozone money.

TiphEret 1,320
I understand the greek though, they have been totally ****ed by their government and now it's to them to pay back when they have no job, no money, I would have also voted for that left wing government and tell the politician who have no real life experience of poverty to go home...
