Redstreak 6,653
Gays are certainly capable of homophobia and it was Azealia who posted it Azealia posted it because it's an outside source that gets her point across. Also situations can have nuance, not every instance of the use of the word "fag" is meant to display homophobia, subconscious or otherwise Its just insulting when women of color think that i aspire to be like them. I aspire to by myself thanks very much. Our cultures may overlap at places but gays are not some kind of parasite feeding off other cultures like people say. That's certainly worth a discussion. Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~
Bebe 17,137
I agree with AB on her discussions on race and patriarchy, but she shouldn't be using the term f****t. It's problematic, and I wish she was as critical on her use of such words as she is in other social issues.

I understand the reasoning for this comic and the point its trying to convey, its just not appropriate for Azealia to be posting it. If Iggy posted a similar comic but claiming black culture appropriates, it would be extremely inappropriate as well.

If Iggy posted a similar comic but claiming black culture appropriates, it would be extremely inappropriate as well. This comic has nothing to do with appropriation though? I just think members here are too biased when it comes to her that they automatically block themselves out from hearing any type of discussion from her. Willy Wonka 4
She is trying to appropriate the word f** to fit her own feminist view but it isn't her word to appropriate. If Gay men can't say b*tch then she can't say f** Also what I don't like is she never says "Men should stop saying b*tch" just that gay men should... and ALSO what I don't like is that rap culture (which she has made clear time and time again is the sole property of african americans) is very much responsible for the re appropriation of the word b*tch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rueScMSnRP4 AB KNOWS that in the african american community the word "b*tch" is synonymous with girl and the word "n*gga" is synonymous with boy. I went to a school that was predominately people of color and these words were used interchangeably with male and female. If she is going to attack people using the B word to describe women it needs to be her attacking ALL people who use it, not just gay men. she has never said gay men should stop using the word b---h. she said that they shouldn't use if it they're gonna get upset when she says f@g. that's very different.nnnnnnnnn not everyone getting her point wrong
HANZ 4,380
if I called her b---h or a ****** everybody would tell me I'm a bad person for that but now Azealia is trying to justify the use of the word Fag and her fans supprt that? ok My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48

Jed 7,716
Azealia posted it because it's an outside source that gets her point across. Also situations can have nuance, not every instance of the use of the word "fag" is meant to display homophobia, subconscious or otherwise Yes that's true, people aren't always thinking in a homophobic way when they use that word. But there are such grave, fatal connotations tied deeply in with that word. Not just gay men who hear it while being beaten now but gay men that have been killed over hundreds of years. People say that the N word just means ignorant, as if it excuses their use of it. But I think if you (AB) are trying to start a meaningful dialogue about inequalities you can't dismiss how many people you will hurt with your usage of that word. she has never said gay men should stop using the word b---h. she said that they shouldn't use if it they're gonna get upset when she says f@g. that's very different. I just don't like that she's focusing in this tightly on white gay men as if they are the only ones who use the word in a derogatory fashion. The word b---h has become a term of endearment in the African American community, so I don't see why she doesn't critique the words presence in rap culture. The word b---h has become a term of endearment in the African American community, so I don't see why she doesn't critique the words presence in rap culture. because it's not about the word at all. think of her argument more as hypocritical offense. she attacks white gay culture, and especially white gay media, for thoughtlessly throwing the word b---h around, but being instantly offended when someone says f@g and calling them a homophobe. she argues that it's fine to use the word b---h if you want, but don't turn around and call people homophobic when they use the word "f@g". it's not about the word at all. it's about the hypocrisy. that's what she takes issue with. gay culture doesn't claim that someone who uses the word b---h is misogynistic, so why is a person who uses the word "f@g" homophobic? that's all she is saying. whether or not i agree with it is a different story, but that's her argument.
