I much prefer the Japanese version of Boom Clap to the original (not understanding the lyrics does help, admitedly). What sounds funny is actually the brief moments of English because she's doing it with an accent - she sounds like a foreigner on the English parts and they're her native language! I guess having some English words in it appeals to the Japanese trend of using English words in Japanese songs or giving them English titles. The only downside to this is that any Japanese fans she makes might be disappointed that she doesn't keep singing in the language and I highly doubt she'll sing these versions live. AS such, it screams "money grab" and "gimmick." The Southeast Asian market is a profitable one, as seen as by the sales and touring success in those regions from Avril Lavigne and Lady Gaga. And seeing as Japan is the second biggest world music market, more and more artists are trying to appeal to this market. But as far as I've seen, when they make their attempts too obvious (Gwen Stefani's solo work), they can actually fail. The Japanese are well noted for being some of the smartest people in the world. Can always hire translators for that. It happens when the singer's native language and the 2nd market both have many unilingual music fans.
