There's plenty of programs that focused on the extreme discrimination and violence against members of the LGBT community, most notably by Channel 4 in the UK in the run-up to the Sochi Olympics. To say they can live freely is ridiculous because the perpetrators of those violent acts went completely unpunished.

You cant believe western medias. Try to live in Russia and you see how friendly people are in here. Ofc there are some extremist groups here but there are everywhere - even in the UK.

These s-xual minorities can live freely in Russia. The laws deal only with mass propagation of deviations.

the anti-gay propaganda, anti-gay violence, and unofficial Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, "vigilante" groups who hunt and abuse homos-xual men, they cannot celebrate Gay Pride, gay icons being banned and threatened with arrest upon arrival, public humilation...

NONE of this is living freely

Check your definition for "freely" and "live". Don't you ****ing compare Obama to that disgusting monster you call Putin.

I wasn't pointing out the UK as a utopian land; just that channel 4 were most notable in bringing up the discrimination. Nobody's questioning the friendliness of the majority of Russians but when video documents and numerous humanitarian charities (Amnesty etc) are pointing to this homophobia and failure to repress it (the homophobia that is), it's strange to deny that.

And its so fking funny how western people feel so concerned about Russia and rights here (when most people are comfortable with the government here) but not about China (the country where even internet is censored) where over 70% western companies have factories.

I get the impression from the first hand. I dont like when people who have never been Russia are judging Russia just based on western medias.

actually i'm very concerned by all the misfortune in the world which is why i want to be a human rights activist but that's besides the point, and yes i'm well aware of all the bad stuff that goes on in my country and there's a LOT of it.

the difference is; we crack down on extremism as much as possible and we allow freedom of speech (which granted isn't always a good thing but whatever)

and we have police and riot squads stopping extremism as much as possible where as in Russia the police would happily allow a homos-xual male be beaten in the streets or humiliated, don't ALWAYS listen to what others (especially discriminating governments) tell you is right.

What sounds more right; having pride in who you are without fear of being humiliated, assaulted & becoming public enemy #1 or being controlled and dictated to, because that's what Putin is - A Dictator

Hopefully western people show the same passion into hating China as well. But thats not gonna happen huh, since 90% of what they use and wear is made in china.

it's ok to be a nationalist  and have pride in your country by all mean but it isn't ok to be deluded into believing if Putin was to fall into horse **** he'd come up smelling of roses.

and you're trying to change the subject
