Record of the Year is awarded to all the writers and people involved with the song, which Tom would be included. Song of the Year is for the singer only I believe. Roty is for the recording, performance, sound engineer, production, etc. SOTY is mainly songwriters and musicians I just looked it up: Despite both the Record of the Year award and Song of the Year being awarded for a single or for one track from an album, this award (SOTY) goes only to the composer(s) of the song whereas the Record of the Year award goes to the performer and production team of the song. I'm not exactly sure which Tom would be credited for I also saw this: Songs containing prominent samples or interpolations are not eligible Uh oh...
