First of all the reason why there are no jews in our schools is that almost all of our public schools are christian. that's why we built jewish schools and even schools for other religions. But thats no excuse for the harassment. Harassment should be stopped in every way! Public schools have a religion there? First of all, the educational system in Belgium is organized by the communities: so Brussels (mentioned in the article) belongs to the Flemish AND the Wallonian system, I guess. I don't know the system in French Belgium. Anyway, a slimmed down explanation of the Flemish system of secondary education is the following: - Public shools, in hands of the state: secular. These schools have to be neutral, but also have to offer the choice between christianity, other acknowledged religions, non-confessional ethics or dispensation. - Private schools, acknowledged by the state but in private hands: the biggest group of private schools are catholic schools. Last July/August , I saw lots of people online wishing Hitler came back and "made the ovens ready " That's weak - either Euros have a lot of latest anti-Semitism or Muslims immigrants are more intolerant than anyone. Because we have multiple problematic Arab states (oppressive, aggressive, etc) and multiple Islamic terrorist incidents, and still Islamophobia isn't driving Muslims out of schools or cities. Of course, after Hitlers terror regime ended, Europe changed drastically. But racism and the right parties are coming back recently. It's an eternal cycle, apparently humans forget to quickly what happened in the past and need a reminder filled with death, hate and suffering before they notice they have made the same mistake yet again. It's an eternal cycle, apparently humans forget to quickly what happened in the past and need a reminder filled with death, hate and suffering before they notice they have made the same mistake yet again. And after some decades of 'peace', it starts again. What's disturbing about Anti-Semitism is how it finds fresh new ways to invent itself. (1) First it was intolerant Christians hating "Christ killers" who wouldn't convert. Society becomes more secular, a lot of Jews assimilate, then it becomes (2) Nationalist right-wing hate. Nazis don't care if Jews convert, they are an ethnic minority that must be destroyed. So the Jews get their own state after the Holocaust. (3) Now they are despised by European far left as "white colonialists" in Israel. While progressives are worrying about Islamophobia, Muslim immigrants make life miserable for Europeans Jews (immigrants welcomed in a spirit of multiculturalism meant to atone for what happened in Hitler era).
