It’s been just about a year since Allie X popped onto the scene with the release of her first track, “Catch†that was later blasted onto the radar of over 60 million people when Katy Perry dubbed it her “Spring Jam.†In that time Allie has shaped her aesthetic by turning her Instagram into a moodboard of inspirational imagery all seemingly leading up to this videoâ€â€this introduction to the world of X. The Jérémie Saindon-directed visual feast features a pile of genderless bodies, nylon-masked faces, and a suspended sacrificial human, all wrapped up in a glitchy, stuttering, film. Don’t take it all literally, though, nothing Allie X does is superficial. Instead, each scene is likely suggestive of the artist. For example, the genderless bodies nod to “X,†a frequent symbol of the undefined and the ambiguous marker of genetic makeup; a hovering cloaked figure embodies Carl Jung’s “shadow self,†a theory the artist investigates in third track “Bitch,†and finally the birth of a butterfly matches the creative birth of an artistâ€â€perhaps more importantly the flourishing of the girl behind the artist. With this endless symbolism I’m reminded that it’s been years since a pop artist took such an out-of-the-norm risk, which only amplifies the excitement behind this newcomer. The Lady Gaga comparisons will undoubtedly arise, but since the Mother Monster took a turn, and toned it down to takeover jazz, pop has been left an experimental voidâ€â€a void that Allie X has already begun to fill. http://www.vmagazine.com/site/content/3632/video-x-world There is also more info on her upcoming release from Idolator: Allie X clearly has the X factor, from her name to her philosophy on music to her upcoming debut release (which she’s offering up through, we’re guessing, her own label, called simply Label X). The Canadian singer first sailed onto our radar in early February last year when she released her brilliant synth gem “Catch.†Nearly 12 months later, Allie has announced her debut release CollXtion I  it’s not quite an album, nor is it being labeled an EP. She’s also finally whipped together a video for “Catch.†CollXtion I is set for an April 7 release, and is described in press materials as “a full multimedia Xperience centered around seven songs. It is the first in a series of CollXtions to be issued in the coming months.
