drinkmytears 2,332
ARTPOP wasn't a flop, it was labelled as a flop by the media. While it wasn't a complete "flop" The media didn't just call it that for no reason. It sold much less than her previous albums. The singles weren't as big. She no longer was the most followed, the richest, etc. The tour was a hit, but not as huge as the Monster or Born This Way Ball. There's many reasons for all of this... but at the end of the day, she has gone down a little in terms of success. Doesn't mean she's a flop, but she isn't as big as she once was. No harm in that. The Child 18,997
Would we call all of Madonna's albums a success? No... Every artist has a "bad" album criticallly and chart wise, but the artist doesn't become "less" of a pop star... I'm very sure people still consider Britney an icon and legend even in the mental state she's in and how her last album did right? Madonna has more than 30 years of career, it took her 10 years to have her first flop. Britney has 16 years of career, it took her 15 years to have her first flop. Gaga has 6 years of career, it took her 5 years to have her first flop. You can't compare Gaga to icons like Madonna & Britney, you see. ‘If religion be the cause of disunity, then irreligion is surely to be preferred.’ ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

iMonster 1,037
Sure.. my rant in this thread is simply the following... Gaga will never be a "flop" personally, and I'm tried of people calling her one because she chooses to walk a path which doesn't always guarantee commercial success or maintaining her position in some mythical pop hierarchy. So I take issue with the OP's wording, that we will discover whether Gaga is a "flop" or not. She'll never be a flop. Quoted for relevance.

Wet Fire 7,495
ARTPOP 'flopped' but I still heard only a few other artists to make a song on the level of DWUW. And those artists are not among the hits of 2013. (except Beyoncé) So it is literally proved that good music=/=hits. The same can be said about The Edge of Glory. That song is as close to art as pop music can get. Still other pop songs which were not that much artistic were bigger hits in 2011. So yeah, I'll be very very very happy if Gaga's next album/singles are/is big hit(s). But even if it isn't I'd still enjoy the era bacause I have complete faith that Gaga will deliver good music with her next project. Plus, after Cheek to Cheek, she seems very ambitious and happy.
