DrewStevens 5,249
Let's be honest, Britney started bringing back EDM with Blackout back in 2007, but Just Dance, Poker Face and The Fame overall were what actually brought EDM, electronica and dance music to mainstream attention. will.i.am. They just jumped on the bandwagon early enough to have people forget that they are just going along with what is trendy. But Britney didn't make EDM a trend at all. Blackout was released two years before EDM had a chance. Neither Gaga or will.i.am jumped the bandwagon. Anyway both albums (The Fame and The E.N.D.) were more innovative than any Nicki album. Supersonic 49,376
Try harder. Work was not a hit. Period. The same way "Starstruck" by Gaga was not a hit. (Except that Starstruck actually sold more and wasn't even a single.) All of her successful stuff has been backed up by some random pop chicks, you can't deny it. TEAs and SEAs don't mean ****, even though Billboard pretends like they do, because record labels and Spotify pay them enough to modify their charts. Judas Oyster 1,914
My point was that if any rap purest is gonna diss will.i.am for producing Britney, it applies equally to Nicki for opening for her. I'm not sure I understand. I do symphatize with that about opening for Britney, but I don't see the connection because Britney is no hip-hop artist? So I don't see how it has to do with Nicki opening for Britney. But okey, forget my point because he didn't make a hip-hop song for her, he made a electronic song for her :P

craig 680
I've heard British people comment on The Beatles sounding American when they sing too. It's because the music seemed so American, it just seemed right.
Goosey 3,017
I don't understand Iggy likes the rap. So because she is white, she is not supposed to doing the rap? How come people are not criticizing ones like "CL" who also does the rap? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8LnzDTaCDk "I am the world's greatest person that does not want to let people into the country."—US President Donald J. craig 680
Look at all of the hip-hop tracks that were huge hits over the past 20 years and tell me that they were all lauded by critics for their depth of meaning and quality. Newsflash: there has been the same proportion of crap hits in hip hop as in any other genre. So what is Iggy "ruining", exactly? "Fancy" is in no way worse than the **** that was hitting #1 2000 - 2005. So people that are arguing that Iggy doesn't deserve her success over more talented people should shut it with the race arguments. Supposed deservedness of mainstream success due to quality of work has nothing to do with race. Yes, most rap hits are either pop-rap that succeeds because of catchy production OR it they are generic sounding and deal with stereotypical themes of no real social import. BEP's Where Is The Love is one of the best examples of a rap hit that is neither - the main attraction is social conscious and uplifting lyrics.
