DrewStevens 5,249
Why would you throw Nicki and Kanye in the same pot as will.i.am? As far as I remember they actually are still making rap music that adresses social issues. I don't know if you heard Yeezus or the Pinkprint, but it didn't sound like a cheap attempt to grab another quick #1 from a slowly dying genre to me. The last 3 albums will.i.am put out did. I let Kanye out of this because he actually makes some original stuff. Nicki in other hand went crappy pop in the Roman Reloaded era more than will ever did. The Pink Print is less pop but it still has a big pop influence and let's not pretend Get On Your Needs is another Dark Horse. will.i.am. has only 3 pop albums out of 11 albums and The E.N.D. was not trying to get a #1 from a dying genre. It was a trend starter unlike any Nicki Minaj album.
craig 680
In terms of people being upset on Iggy 'ruining' the genre, I've actually had a number of friends who now are looking deeper into genre and discovering artists like Kendrick, Missy, Lil Kim, etc. due to an interest from some of Iggy's songs. In some ways I think she makes a decent bridge for some to get into a new genre and explore it more. Same way the "appropriation" of black R&B by white rockers like Elvis in the 50's opened the way for whites to appreciate a much greater variety of black musicians. Or through Gaga, I discovered many British pop-dance stars from the 00's decade (despite some of their fanbases resenting Gaga).

Navy 495
Britney is not using they word nïgga and talking about being the realest. Neither is she only making hip-hop... She's not considered a hip-hop artist. Iggy doesn't use nîgga though?

It was a trend starter unlike any Nicki Minaj album. Let's be honest, Britney started bringing back EDM with Blackout back in 2007, but Just Dance, Poker Face and The Fame overall were what actually brought EDM, electronica and dance music to mainstream attention. will.i.am. They just jumped on the bandwagon early enough to have people forget that they are just going along with what is trendy.
codymonster 8,595
Finally, someone with brains Azealia is trying to fight racism by being racist and stereotypical to Iggy, which is counterproductive. Glad he spoke up! It's funny how some of you are saying that will.i.am is not allowed to have an opinion because he "sold himself". He tried to do something different. He started the EDM era of pop music along with Gaga. So Gaga is revolutionary for incorporating electronic music to pop music but will.i.am is a trash for incorporating electronic music to hip hop. Is that how it works? If you are black you need to stay on your lane while white artists can come and go with every genre? That's bull****. You can disagree with him but why do you have to discredit his opinion by saying he is not a hip hop artist? Isn't this a racial issue anyway? This People trying to defend racism with racism tbh. It's ridiculous. Any race should be able to do anything another race can. THAT is equality. Saying Will I Am can't speak because he changed genres is just... :wtf:

Ty3009 232
Look at all of the hip-hop tracks that were huge hits over the past 20 years and tell me that they were all lauded by critics for their depth of meaning and quality. Newsflash: there has been the same proportion of crap hits in hip hop as in any other genre. So what is Iggy "ruining", exactly? "Fancy" is in no way worse than the **** that was hitting #1 2000 - 2005. So people that are arguing that Iggy doesn't deserve her success over more talented people should shut it with the race arguments. Supposed deservedness of mainstream success due to quality of work has nothing to do with race.
