Will.i.am Tweets Support for Iggy against Racism

it's a problem BIGGER than what most people here can begin to comprehend and goes far beyond AB v IA

Yes! Will.i.am is addressing the bigger issue, not taking sides in a personal feud or the issue of who is more talented. Most of us agreeing with him are addressing the broader issue too.

It's AB stans who feel compelled, it seems, to support her racial ideas that fan the flames of racial tension.

My passion just stems from a place of deep disappointment that somebody as influencial as as he was in Hip-Hop would just completely sell himself out. I know that all artists have to, but to that degree will.i.am did is just pure perversion and disgusting to me. I don't find his opinion credible at all, because in my eyes he's been doing the same thing Iggy tried to do: Break into a somewhat foreign culture's mainstream with a really cheap caricature of music.

Stuff like 50 Cent WAS mainstream in the mid-00's.

Will.i.am fused rap and electro and did someone original. A sellout follows trends - he set them.

That better than making the same generic rap over and over, like Nicki's song feat those 3 guys. A sound that once would crossover to pop and now doesn't, because it's stale.

I like will, but ofc he'll support Iggy when he's making hip-hop for Britney.

Nicki opened for Britney's tour, but haven't heard her support Iggy.

Imo, will.i.am, did nothing to redeem himself as a hip-hop artist. for a very long time. i despise his current music, and I really think that EDM's horrible reputation stems from his productions. I'm not saying that black artists, aren't allowed to do pop, EDM or any other genre, Kanye's pop records are some of the greatest of all time, The Weeknd is one of the most talented artists I can think of, Chasing Time by Azealia is a great song. I'm sure this is the same thing many old EDM fans think about Gaga. She is basically one of the main reasons why EDM is now "trash", because she decided to make it mainstream and pop-ish.

Did Nicki Minaj lose her right to talk about this too? Because she made even worse dance pop music.

Where will.i.am departed from Ms Banks isn't 2009 but 2004.

It's when he let Fergie join BEP and made Where is the Love?

I guess he's a "coon" like T.I because he promoted a white girl in hip-hop, and preached love and harmony in his songs instead of black nationalism.

I agree.

I don't believe Iggy is more successful than Azealia because she is white, I believe she is more successful because she makes a lot more pop based records than Azealia, which is more marketable, no matter how much more I think Azealia is talented.  :flop:

Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that white privileges still exist, I just don't believe this is an example of it.

This is how I've seen it TBH. Iggy makes commercial and easily digestible music for the masses that's easy to latch onto, AB's music panders more to the love of critics and 'true' hip-hop fans. Her sound isn't easy to throw onto a pop station or garner airplay while Iggy is making hooks and verses that become infectious ear worms. If the roles were reversed in terms of the music genres and content created I think AB would be just as successful in a mainstream way.

In terms of people being upset on Iggy 'ruining' the genre, I've actually had a number of friends who now are looking deeper into genre and discovering artists like Kendrick, Missy, Lil Kim, etc. due to an interest from some of Iggy's songs. In some ways I think she makes a decent bridge for some to get into a new genre and explore it more.

Why would you throw Nicki and Kanye in the same pot as will.i.am? As far as I remember they actually are still making rap music that adresses social issues. I don't know if you heard Yeezus or the Pinkprint, but it didn't sound like a cheap attempt to grab another quick #1 from a slowly dying genre to me. The last 3 albums will.i.am put out did.

Britney is not using they word nïgga and talking about being the realest. Neither is she only making hip-hop... She's not considered a hip-hop artist.

My point was that if any rap purest is gonna diss will.i.am for producing Britney, it applies equally to Nicki for opening for her.
