Cody Draco 2,531
good question, it's funny Hiphop/Soul/R&B/RockNRoll&Blues all came from the black community, these things have become so intermingled with different cultures, they feel its not their own anymore. It's something the black community identifies with as their own culture. Why? because they were expression forms of music/art/etc during times when skintone was a bigger issue in the world then it is now (however it still plays a big part these days, underlying racism, stereotyping, etc), a lot of the black community sees their last bit of "black culture" smudging out into the mainstream....it doesn't feel genuine anymore/or a genuine expression form of music, but more like a "facade" to be cool. So it's just about preserving the history behing the genres?

miju 375
The thing is, Iggy comes in as the new face of rap to the mainstream public and makes money because shes a white girl using the stereotype of what rap music is. She makes hip-hop easy for a white demographic to swallow, but does that mean what she's really making is rap? No, it's like a parody of rap music tied around a pop hook to ensure that it's appealing enough. And I'm sure it infuriates Azealia because this girl is actually getting nominated for Grammys for best rap song when what she's making isn't real rap. And the racial smudging bit was pretty interesting, it's obvious that Azealia has deep emotions when it comes to all of this and it's possible to go on and on about it all. doseofamnesia. tumblr. com

I love you. You, you, you, you.
craig 680
a white girl who stereotypes them, believes she is there master and believes she has the right to use a slur they would have all heard used against them? It's just wrong. A white girl who grew up idolizing blacks, who moved half way around the world to be closer to their music scene, who probably has heard the N word uttered on rap CDs tens of thousands of times, who dates a black man ... Basically her and Miley think everything black is cool, but the cool blacks kids don't want them at their table. (Weird how America is racist yet blackness is so cool. Americans are funny.) Well on the mainstream end of it, if someone wants to be more popular they can trend hop and make music designed for pop radio play instead of being a true artist. The Grammy thing infuriates me, but it's not even just Iggy, it's the fact they reward commercial excellence moreso than artistic excellence across the board. Chromatislaps 34,799
So it's just about preserving the history behing the genres? no its more then that, it's hard to explain, as being a part of a minority its more like a beacon where you feel at home and trying to preserve that. In the LGBTQ scene you have this too right? I guess its certain dances like vogueing or certain things that make the LGBTQ culture distinctive but at the same time its a trademark thing were some gays/lesbians/bi/etc can relate to. For the urban community its hip-hop, and now they feel like the media/white business people are trying to make it mainstream in such a way, it feels foreign to the urban community. It's been taken out of context. the whole thing behind hiphop, was to convey problems/topics the urban community had/still have to deal with.
