Azealia made everything make sense and I'm so happy to be a fan of an actual artist (Azealia) and not a product. :emo:

I don't feel pushed away by her like I kind of did before when she would talk about race issues on twitter, just because I'm white doesn't mean she was ever talking about me. I just appreciate her and her art so much and I hate hearing her feel this way/be treated this way.

i love ur post...but its really something people who haven't been discriminated because of their, skin or culture can't understand. And its weird because I'd expect from the LGBTQ community to understand discrimination, because its not very different from racism...its very deep rooted.

The same could be said about Nicki Minaj doing pop records, however, if somebody said that she's stealing from a culture and suggested that she needs to be put to the hip-hop category because she's black, you guys would scream racism.

Black culture has been stolen from and presented to pop culture by whites for generations.

From Doo Wop and Rock N Roll, to now its like people see what the blacks are doing in their culture, take it, and become exalted and praised for it. See Elvis. And the same with hip hop, oh so now this beautiful, white woman is doing it, mediocrely, and all of a sudden she's taking Nicki's spot? Who has worked harder and is, bar for bar, much more talented.

Now to say reserve racism doesn't exist is really ignorant, BUT its hard to cry foul when its not your race who has been oppressed for hundreds of years. And its painful to have, what as AB puts it something that we have made, taken away, again.

And no one is saying white people shouldn't or can't rap, it just feels like a hard blow when someone isn't as talented gets the praise just because they are white enough to appeal to the pop  audience.

I root for you. I love you. You, you, you, you.

Rihanna doesn't write her own songs and isn't the greatest singer, yet is way more successful than many white girls who are better at both. That's the way the cookie crumbles in pop.

Once rap achieved huge commercial success all around the world for a couple decades, it was no longer "black culture" but the commercial music of a generation of kids.

What kind of a message does it send to little Aussie or British kids when you tell them only African-Americans are allowed to be rap stars, even though rap is on their radio?

Azealia Banks doesn't make Pop, but still - Pop music is incredibly white washed anyway. They want their black women whiter to the point they barely look like they're dual heritage, let alone like their actual heritage.

Iggy doesn't rap, she basically impersonates what she thinks is rap (a.k.a. that awful stereotype of a black gangster bragging) and tries to run with it over a pop instrumental and some random pop girl pulled from the bunch. She's not making rap music.

Oh please, that last part is just laughable.

You've missed the point so badly. If Nicki made a pop album and was nominated because of it, she would be in the pop category.

Iggy's gained giant success from making pop music, why did she deserve to be in a category with people who have ran with rap music their whole career?

Why does race trump nationality? Why not see it as a xenophobic American resentful than a foreigner is having success?

Same as when the country music establishment had a hissy fit over Olivia Newton-John, as Aussie, winning country entertainer of the year in 1974?

Exactly, now imagine Gaga or Katy coming to a radio show and saying that she should be put in the hip hop category because she's black?

She gained success from Fancy, which is a hip-hop record.

But that IS commercial rap as displayed on radio. That "awful stereotype" is embodied much more by Nicki's latest single with Chris Brown etc. To the extent that only blacks make that kind of music, white people just assume it's "black culture" and have their stereotypes reinforced.

I think some people are clearly missing the point, or trying to move away from the point shes making by bringing other topics lol

What do you mean exactly? If Nicki makes a pop record it should go into the pop category. I'm failing to see your point on this?

She gained success from Fancy, which is a hip-hop record.

Fancy? The commercialized, pop take of her song Leave It featuring an up and upcoming pop artist? Mmmm very "hip-hop"

Because race is a very important issue. And in the past I fooled myself into thinking it doesn't matter, that oh, "I'm American, I don't want people to see me as my race." But now I am older realize that its extremely important. I see how important black artist are for black culture, and that there is a black culture because its easy to get lost, especially in an era where blacks aren't treated the same. And a lot of black kids want to assimilate very badly.

I mean if Iggy was, bar for bar, on par with Azealia or Nicki or even Angel Haze then there wouldn't be much to say. But even Rosenberg said it, she's not. And Iggy is only a thing because is doing the same thing as hundreds of black southern rapper but she's pretty and white and can appeal to pop. So lets play her on the radio. The people listening to Iggy won't go and listen to real hip hop.

You're defending someone who believes she can say "n*gger" as a way to demean someone and call herself the "Slave Master" and whip? If breaking down stereotypes is what you're claiming she's doing... you're wrong, my friend

It's not though. If Fancy is, then Lips Are Movin' by Megan is a hip hop record too.

People forget that hip-hop is a culture, and rap is the genre of music.
