Economy 52,844
le pen oh lorde can someone explain to me why oil prices have been so low and how they will affect oil producers and affect the environment? simple... theres been a boom in shale and oil sands... Brazil and Canada have increased production quite a bit, UK in offshoring i believe and the US in particular has really increased production. We have mnillions of barrels a day more oil production than before But because teh global economy is weak, consumption hasnt been growing at the same pace as production so now theres an over-supply and producers are forced to compete with eachother to sell oil and so the price is dropping like a stone however the boom has mostly been in shale and oil sands which are expensive to produce. these low prices could squeeze many producers, production eventually could fall and eventually prices will go back up

Economy 52,844
just what the us needs to be investing in well, private companies invested in oil and provided jobs and tax revenue not tax money went into this so it wasnt Americas Government as a Nation that poured investment into this So i dont see the big deal. if anything its help cut imports and helped lower the trade deficit
Jonna Lee 384
well, private companies invested in oil and provided jobs and tax revenue not tax money went into this so it wasnt Americas Government as a Nation that poured investment into this So i dont see the big deal. if anything its help cut imports and helped lower the trade deficit I was looking at it from an environmentalist standpoint. the United States should be funnelling money into finding alternative, cleaner, safer, and cheaper sources of energy versus oil i like it when u treat me mean it turns my mood from black to blue

It's about profits for investors, low oil make green energy comparatively higher, I think that public conscience about the environment and climate change will impact consuer decisions, but currently , alternative is only affordable to the upper tier. Tesla auto's are awesome but cheap electric cars suck way more than their gas counter parts... like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. lizlemon 22
true, and thats why we need to invest in those creating "green" vehicles that dont suck Support Tesla and you'll be doing more than your fair share. That being said, Tesla's are ****ing expensive and even now, they're having to fight with state regulators to even be allowed to sell vehicles to the public. Really sad. the world needs more companies like it.
Economy 52,844
I was looking at it from an environmentalist standpoint. the United States should be funnelling money into finding alternative, cleaner, safer, and cheaper sources of energy versus oil yeah but its kind of seperate. Green development has more to do with the Government. Either they build green energy, or they subsidise green companies to encourage growth Oil on the otherhand is fully private and seperate. You can have both Even if you go 100% green, you still need lots of oil because oil isnt just for energy, its used for a lot of other stuff. So why not produce and cut imports? PS: my Province (Ontario) started a green energy initiative and hydro started skyrocketing ever since. 8% hike next year alone. Manufacturers hate it! Economy 52,844
So what manufacturers hate it? It's worth it if it freshens the air and is better for the environment. There's more to life than money. Sure but theres no need to be wrekless about it Our deficit this past year was Larger than the Federal Governments. We have serious competitiveness issues already to begin with, we dont have natural resources like other parts of Canada so we have to rely on manufacturing which was totally hammered when the Canadian Dollar surged at the same time world demand plummeted during the financial crisis The last thing we need is surging electricity bills reducing competitiveness even more on the only sector we can rely on (manufacturing) The Federal Government has money, Other Provinces are also in better shape than us... Why do we have to be the ones to do all the work? Not to mention much of our electricity was already from hydro-electricity and nuclear. Only small portion was fossil fuels. Getting rid of them at a faster pace than we can afford to make wind and solar besides being financially irresponsible is not gonna make that huge a difference to the environment anyway I think they did this to win the votes of environmentalist extremists. It made no sense whats so ever

There's more to life than money.two problems with renewable (green) energy sources from an investment stand point...Oil companies get tax breaks for exploration and research that wind and solar doesn't ... Oil companies have been in business a lot longer and have a lot of 'already built' infrastructure. Green energy companies face foreign completion (China) which have a lot cheaper manufacturing costs.Saying the U.S. should is correct, but should do and do do ain't always on the same page. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. No entrepreneur will do the research without at least Government subsities What im saying is Governments should invest in research, and even subsidiese private green companies for now... but in the mean-time while oil is still used... if you have resereves, might as well use it rather than importing it. If the US can frack and cut imports why not? fracking and cutting imports will not impede green developement
