SEVDALIZA 1,274
EXACTLY. She is alienating pretty much most of the people who bought her album. It's not just gay men that say b---hes... come on... everyone is saying that word these days - women, men... it doesn't make it right but please don't pin that on gay men. I know, but you just don't see a straight guy saying the word in every sentence. It's a fact that many gay guys go saying sh*t like "Yas b---h, that b---h looked so f*cking bad, b---h better get a grip lol". Once again, I know gay people are not the only ones who do it, and once again, I know not every gay person does it. But the fact is that it's mostly evident in gay guys. And yet again, I do not endorse her choice of words. operating from another world
Pop 4,541
But is she beating up, killing or torturing anyone? No, but using that word makes it seem like it's okay to do. Same with the n-word. Take of your stan goggles and face the fact for one second. The Taylor Brigade: KNOCKOUT
inuborg 4,135
No, but using that word makes it seem like it's okay to do. Same with the n-word. Pop 4,541
What.....Azealia is not saying its okay to kill and torture gays And you cannot equate the f word with the n word :dead: Um, YES you can. The term ******* or fagot, meaning bundle of sticks, shows up around 1300 in English. It almost certainly came from Old French, possibly going back to Greek phakelos. Since those bundles of sticks were mainly used for fires, it's not surprising that the term came to mean burning sticks. Then there was that nasty business in medieval times where heretics were burned at the stake. Some later cites indicate heretics who repented and were spared a fiery death had to wear a picture of a ******* on their sleeve to show what might have been their fate. Even the origin of the word is connected to homos-xuals being BURNED AT THE STAKE. It's a word that has historically been used while killing and torturing gays, just like the N-word was for black people. Please open your eyes to this problem, it's not a joke. Pop 4,541
To all the people defending her use of the F-word: The word “*******†really means a bundle of sticks used for kindling in a fire. Now, in the middle ages, when they used to burn people they thought were witches? They used to burn homos-xuals, too. And, they used to burn the witches at a stake, but they thought the homos-xuals were too low and disgusting to be given a stake to be burnt on, so they used to just throw them in with the kindling, with the other *******s. So that’s how you get “flaming *******.†You might wanna know that every gay man in America has probably had that word shouted at them while they’re being beaten up, sometimes many times, sometimes by a lot of people all at once. So, when you say it, it kind of brings that all back up. But, you know, by all means, use it. Get your laughs. But, you know, now you know what it means. But, you know, now you know what it means. i feel like i'm on r/askhistorians :dead: but can you post the source of this information? after a quick google on fa*got wiki says this: There used to be an urban legend, called an "oft-reprinted assertion" by Douglas Harper, that the modern slang meaning developed from the standard meaning of ******* as "bundle of sticks for burning" with regard to burning at the stake. This is unsubstantiated; the emergence of the slang term in 20th-century American English is unrelated to historical death penalties for homos-xuality.[8] online etymology dictionary says this : The explanation that male homos-xuals were called *******s because they were burned at the stake as punishment is an etymological urban legend. Burning sometimes was a punishment meted out to homos-xuals in Christian Europe (on the suggestion of the Biblical fate of Sodom and Gomorrah), but in England, where parliament had made homos-xuality a capital offense in 1533, hanging was the method prescribed. Use of ******* in connection with public executions had long been obscure English historical trivia by the time the word began to be used for "male homos-xual" in 20th century American slang, whereas the contemptuous slang word for "woman" (in common with the other possible sources or influences listed here) was in active use early 20c., by D.H. Lawrence and James Joyce, among others. I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.
DrewStevens 5,249
Great.
