David Cameron was “sat on†by German premiere Angela Merkel and forced to drop radical plans to cut immigration, a senior Tory has said.

Former Cabinet Minister Owen Paterson warned the PM “won’t deliver†his promised changes to EU laws.

Mr Cameron has already been forced to drop his idea of an ‘emergency brake’ on the number of new migrants after realising it was not supported by other EU leaders.

Downing Street admitted the PM phoned Mrs Merkel in advance of his big speech on immigration.

Do you think the Tories are right to try and drastically reduce immigration?

Yes! Let's close the borders and leave the EU.

No! Immigrants also contribute to this country.

Mr Paterson told Murnaghan on Sky News: “It looks as if we’ve been sat on by the Germans.â€

Mr Cameron instead used his speech to announce a major crackdown on the benefits available to new arrivals from foreign countries.

But the PM admitted the package would first require treaty change at the EU - meaning all 27 countries must agree.

Mr Paterson, the former Environment Secretary, said: “I fear we’ll get into a long, rambling negotiation and we won’t deliver. This is a really pressing problem.â€

David Cameron is a ****ing idiot.

Pretty much this. He is ordered around like a puppy in the EU.

Pretty much this. He is ordered around like a puppy in the EU.

He has never made a single decision by himself and sticks to it, he is a terrible 'leader'. Instead he just flaps his mouth and stutters.

I feel sorry for the UK people with Cameron as prime minister. He is isolated in EU council meetings. Nobody wants to speak with him anymore and I feel that he is just trying to keep conservative voters but he is acting just like he is  UKIP member.  I would like UK to stay in the European Union but if this kind of politics continue maybe it is better for them to leave becausse now Camerion is just making new problems every month, and he is not constructive, he is destructive. And I aknowledge that UK is a big country, strong one in the EU but outside of it without all benefits EU brings situation for UK will be much much worse.

Exactly this   :smh:

Whenever he makes a promise, good or bad, he can never follow it through.

And I would like to say that you are not under German directive because all member states feel the same about Cameron politics but Merkel says it publicly.
