Leigh Bowery probably sold thirty records out of the trunk of his friends car but he obviously had an enormous impact on Gaga's career. Sales aren't the end all and be all.  There are many parallels between Gaga and Cyndi in both their art and personal life. Two Italian American New Yorkers who were victims of bullying as children, both s-xually abused by industry insiders, they both radically changed the way their peers dressed and behaved, and they both are willing to forego commercial success to follow their creative vision, and they are arguably the two most important LGBT activist pop music has ever seen.  They are both primarily known as pied pipers of odd wads and homos-xuals.
