Vatican scraps "welcome" to gays sought by Pope Francis

What I don't get is why Francis is changing his tune. Didn't he vote against allowing gay people to adopt kids in argentina?

I know what it is you're referring to!

Bergoglio is seen an unwaveringly orthodox on matters of s-xual morality, staunchly opposing abortion, same-s-x marriage, and contraception. In 2010 he asserted that gay adoption is a form of discrimination against children, earning a public rebuke from Argentina's President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

And in 2012...

The Pope is “shocked†by Malta’s Civil Unions Bill, which will allow gay couples to adopt children, Auxiliary Bishop Charles Scicluna has told The Sunday Times of Malta.

Defending his decision to use his Christmas homily to reiterate that a family had to be built around a man and a woman, Mgr Scicluna said he had aired these concerns with Pope Francis when he met him on December 12.

Which is why while people where celebrating his relatively progressive platform, I still pointed this out as signs that he wasn't fully on board. Yes, he said he was not one to judge a homos-xual, but to say that gay adoption is a form of discrimination is just....:awkney:

As someone who grew up Catholic I like this push for inclusiveness, but to see it torn to shreds like this is not pleasant tbh.

well they believe in the bible and it fully is against the acts of homos-xuality. So of course they debate it.

Secondly Its not just in the mosaic law. Ive read texts that came after the mosaic law and jesus that also speak against it

Actually it's not but okay

yeah, and didn't he say that he wouldn't judge a homos-xual so long as he believed in god or w/e? his stance is hardly revolutionary

This. Some Christian denominations have modernized their way to interpret the Bible, but the Bible is still the same. They can't ignore the fact that the Bible condemns homos-xuality more than just once.

RAMROD

The Vatican, and more particularly, the Curia is widely seen as a problem by many Roman priests.

Remember, the Curia is the Vatican Mafia...and the CDF (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) used to be the Inquisition!

The Vatican is the problem....not the solution! Francis knows this...which is one reason he has abandoned the Papal apartment.

The other reason is his own safety.

Really right wing Romans can be dangerous.

There was a Pope, back in the seventies, John Paul I, who died after thirty three days in office.

Basically, it is thought he was murdered as he was a moderate man.

The extremists see that as threatening.

Francis will know his life is always at risk from such people.

You see, it is an actual Game of Thrones behind Vatican walls really.
