swine killer 0
Gaga strips nude, shows her ass the whole show practically, does a shot of her ass, on and on, walks down the street with her ass showing, tits showing. Does a shot of getting a tattoo and then pulls her dress up so her bare ass can be photoed. She is no better than any other pop star using her body. I hate this belittling other pop singers like Gaga is so above them and not using her body and antics. Stripping down naked at the gay club. I guess if Miley does it it's something different than if Gaga does it. Gaga is more talented, but all of these girls have put out music and/or songs that mean something to somebody or that when they write them or co-write mean something to them and fans. But let's tear them down. I think Gaga is more talented by far, but I don't think Gaga walks on water and I think she does a lot of antics and gimmicks that is NOT always about artnor shows her being any more of a feminist than Bey or Katy or anyone else. In fact, every time a pop artist pulls that it's my art, it's my art, half the time it's eye-roll inducing. That goes for Madonna too. It is OK. You can do all that stuff even if you're a feminist. No one own their bodies. But Miley use other cultures in s-xist and racist context. And Katy and Taylor have done it too. They utilize the woman from another culture in their artistry with zero respect. That's not OK. Gaga is not impeccable but she is better than many other pop stars - because she uses only her body, it's her art. :thirst:
NewUsername 11,056
Last month the album entered the US charts at No 1 but only reached No 10 here.[...] But Cheek to Cheek’s disappointing performance here [...] Back in the ArtRave saddle, she and her arena-sized production had rolled into the Belgian city’s 23,000-capacity Sportpaleis, which is as windy and unlovely a concrete box as they come. 1) Since when is no 10 a disappointing performance? Ok, the UK is the world's 2nd (?) biggest music market, but US Billboard #1, soo 2) Not here for that Sportpaleis shade
LilVenusian 579
And here you are complaining and sort of tear and judging Gaga. You complain about her views on feminism, and you say that she’s says that she is a feminist just to apear edgy and intelligent. But are you trying to excuse Miley, Katy and Taylor for their non-feminist behaviours and be like YAS GIRL POWER, and drag both me and Gaga? Why should I as a feminist to shut up when Miley, Katy and Taylor constantly exploiting other cultures and don’t fight against s-xism and stereotypes! Why I think many artists are industrially is that they use the faceless black woman repeatedly. (I will not go into the details, you can figure it out yourself). They are the ones who want to be "Edgy"? They objectify the woman in so many ways. Why shoud they get away with it? You mention the men, yes there are men who can make it worse. And I don’t attack women only. I can do a facking list of men I just want to scalp! But this is about Miley, Katy and Taylor – because the OP is about the article and all you here who have problems with Gaga's statement and feminism. The difference between Gaga and them is that Gaga is THE edgy and intelligent one. Gaga appreciate other people's cultures, cultural influences and like to school herself. She cares about and traditions while she spreads love, approaching equality and fight against the misogyny and patriarchy. She know the roots of her art and expressions. She have visions and know what she stands for. Her artistry is her life. I don't say that Gaga is flawless. But when she is extreme, she uses herself, or she uses a social problem and shows how passionate she is about it. When she was controversial, she used the Catholic church. Of course that harms many peope and that's another discussion and it’s questionable, but at least she is born and raised catholic and has experience. Sometimes cultural appropriation is an overreaction. It's still something that feminists should fight against. Feminism is linked to anti-racism/s-xism/homophobia etc. Maybe I was a bit too harsh on Katy, and I am sorry for that. I don’t think she is powerless, I wish her health, peace, happiness and much love!!! .. but I don’t think her music or artistry is genuine and it feels like it's owned by today's music industry. I am critical to her non-feminist behaviours etc. even if she is a woman! Sorry I can not support her as an artist. I want equality and authenticity. :thirst: I'm not excusing anyone, i just believe its a little unfair to blame women for over-s-xualising themselves and perpetuating stereotypes when they themselves are also victims of the patriarchy surrounding them. Its like someone blaming black people for perpetuating stereotypes and not rising above inequality. Your situating the discussion in the entirely wrong direction. As a feminist you should be looking beyond the surface and be asking more harder hitting questions i.e Why are women pressured to over-s-xualise themselves in the media? Who benefits from this behaviour? Where is the fine line between self-expression and exploitation? Obsessively a--lyzing every little action and then just condemning the artists behind them without any higher thinking or critical discussion is not doing anything to further the feminist movement as a whole. And I definitely think Gaga is an excellent feminist role model, just by her output alone, i just wish she was a little more well thought out when making public proclamations, because they tend to come across as a flighty stream of consciousness. Like shes just saying something for the sake of it or because shes been probed.

Gaga doesn't do it in a 's-xy' or 'attractive' way that all the others do. She does it more for the shock value or in a "look at my ass mother f******" way, as well as artistically. For example, her nude video with Marina. I love Gaga, but there was almost nothing attractive about her nude shots in that. If anything, I think that video further alienated her from the GP, quite the opposite of any nude attempt by other artists.

I think you are the one who are unfair who seem to believe that women are sort of privileged to use cultural appropriation etc. because they already are victims of patriarchy around them. I'm not blaming anyone to over s-xualizing THEMESLEVES. It's fantastic that women are taking place in a man dominated industry, but that does not stop them for being a part of the patriarchy too. I am a feminist and I fight for the feminist movement and I am against racism and s-xism. Your questions are very important and I am passionate about them. Open a new feminism thread and count me in. but I am adapted to this (messy) thread and this thread is not a general discussion about feminism. As you think Gaga's view on feminism is flip floppy and you criticize Gaga for not supporting her peers, well I criticize her peers for non-feminist behavours and I also wish that they were more well thought when it comes to feminism and CA. So no I will not relegate myself to them. Should I as a feminist look beyond the surface? As a feminist I fight against every flaws, the big ones and the small ones, until the world is flawless. So I will not look beyond the surface while artists violate the woman from the other cultures in their art + much more non-feminist crap they feed the world with. The exclusion of their actions do not doing any facking thing to further the feminist movement. It only promotes ignorance and oppression.
