I love the feminist comment, she's def come a long way from that 2009 interview

I hate when she keeps sayong she has nothing to do with the other pop girls.

that's not the point. you can't preach about feminism and female artists being free to be themselves and **** and then throw shade at them. I love PretentiousGa, but sometimes she should keep her mouth shut.

No. YOU should keep yours shut. You're completely missing the point here.

Her saying that female artists should be free to be themselves and her saying that she's not related to any of the other artists are two completely different things.

You want to take it as shade? Fine let's take it as shade. So what if she's implying that she's better than the rest? Mediocrity or difference in talent has NOTHING to do with the message of feminism she's trying to send here.

She's not attacking them, she's just simply saying "no, do not group me with them because we're different artists" and that's completely true.

That's not very feminist of you. You should support their right to be popstars the way they want. You can dislike their music on a personal level, but you should still stand for them as femal artists. I've had enough of these cat fights in pop music.

Just because they are women, I don't have to automaticly "support" what they do just because I am a feminist. Not only do a lot of their choices and creation is driven by men who want to sell and decide. Plus Taylor and Katy said several times that they are not feminists, and Miley might be a feminist but she have played with cultures and s-xism in very bad ways .

The industry is not what it looks like, Gaga shades the industry more than the women themselves.

Why does every thread on GGD turn into a mess? Oh, wait. I know why: It's because only 1% of people here know how to say their opinion without being verbally violent. So, nothing new here. The interview is great, by the way :whitney:

I actually love that she is making it clear she is not a pop star. This is not to say she doesn't or won't sing pop music, but she does not operate in the pop star mode. I think the world would be much happier with her presence if we all conceived of her as a performance artist instead. The songs are a mode of this art, but the art is lived constantly through her. The more she attempts to make that distinction the better. She can recognize the pop star route as valid while disassociating herself from it.

This interview slays hard.

I LOVE to read those words, she's confident on herself again. That's all she needed.

I LOVE when she keeps saying that she has nothing to do with the other pop girls. Because it is exactly the truth.

I agree but her saying she will not relegate herself to other pop stars is very shady and rude. She is saying that she does not want people to lower her to their level in order to compare them. She should have just said "I don't want to be compared to them because we have different artistic intentions" and left it at that. She didn't have to throw in that she feels like she is above them or a better artist. Her statement doesn't go against feminism because like you said, being a feminist doesn't mean you have to like, agree with, or support all females. It does go against her commintment to promoting kindness and anti-bullying. How is what Gaga said any different to Mandonna calling Born This Way reductive?

Glad to see her views on feminism have evolved from 2009. The subtle scalping of the other girls seems slightly shady, but I don't think she meant it that way :thetea:

Very nicely put  :applause:  :tea:

Thanks OP for sharing this interview, great read.

I'm just like Taylor ( :fan:), Gagz voice can touch me so deeply I sometimes just cry.

"But I certainly will not relegate myself to any of those artists.â€

that's harsh..

Wonder if she meant to say Relate ????

I don't see why this statement doesn't make sense. She's saying she's not going to put herself beneath them. Relegate. Essentially, just because they are 'marketing plans' to churn out hit singles, she isn't going to allow her self to be ranked beneath.

perfectly fine statement and not that hostile-- only hostile if you oversensitize it.
