However, this day should be used as a day of remembrance to the biggest ethnic cleansing of a people-the Indigenous population of the Americas-in which an estimated 90 percent of the population was killed. (The original indigenous population was estimated to be anywhere from 30 million to 100 million people.) Disease (smallpox), Famine, War, Conquest, and Exploitation for Labor were what killed many Native Americans caused by the terrible crimes committed by the White Supremacist European nations of the past and the Catholic Church. Anymore than you can call the Black Plague a genocide of Europeans by whoever brought it to Europe in 14th century. agreed, besides the couple of cases in which they would make Native Americans sleep in "smallpox blankets." but let's not blow over the fact that millions of native americans were cruelly subjected to the encomienda system of the Spaniards which inevitably killed all of them and started the slave trade in the Americas. Not to say they were worse than 15-17th century Europeans, but if they had the technology and numbers it's a good bet they would have done the same to alien cultures on another continent.
