Mills 446 Posted June 10, 2015 Share Posted June 10, 2015 I think they include fan-made clips from YouTube that include the song, I guess like parodies, covers, etc. I just noticed that Bad Romance is tied with Eminem's ''Love The Way You Like'' as the highest-certified song in the US EVER Under RIAA's rules for awarding certifications for digital singles, they don't (and shouldn't) count streams from videos which are not officially released by the labels. So that means they exclude views from fan-made videos online. Covers are also excluded since they don't combine live recordings with the official digital songs. Now, whether or not they strictly observe this rule is another matter. We've to keep in mind that it's the labels who are submitting their info to RIAA and paying them to get these records certified. It is business and any form of business is susceptible to any form of corruption. In addition to that, RIAA also doesn't use the available stats from Nielsen Music, a company that actually tracks album sales, digital song sales, and streams but also practices and observes certain exclusions with their count. This allows then some labels to have a higher count, if they opt for the maximum figure, particularly for albums, to be submitted to RIAA for certification. Here's the link to the RIAA rules. Gaga needs to snatch the record for the first artist to have 2 Diamond certified singles before anyone else. SIO and BS sales won't be enough and based on Bad Blood's views first week, only 18M from 70M full week views are from the US so I doubt views from SIO and BS from the US are enough, not to mention they lack Spotify streams. It's just that Telephone, Alejandro, Born This Way, Judas, and The Edge of Glory have NO certification. That's 12M missing in sales, and probably 17M missing in sales + streaming certs. LoveGame and Paparazzi are certified I believe but their certs are outdated. LG should be 3x and Paparazzi 4x, that's a missing 2M in certs.
