IFPI reported 2.3M by the end of 2013 but those are most likely shipments. Gaga then said, around March 2014, that ARTPOP shifted 2.5M copies. Once again, Gaga's numbers were based on shipments. We don't know that, and Gaga said "sold"...not "shifted". Gaga at SXSW: We’ve sold over 2 ½ million copies of ARPOP all over the world. I’m sorry I didn’t sell a million in one week. I have before. I’m very proud of what we did. It’s so insane. I’m held to such an insane standard. It’s almost like everyone forgets where the music business is now." Take that however you want, but Gaga did say "sold" and her informaton was very much in line with IFPI numbers, which are the official numbers. He was here leading up to the release of the album and every waking hour during Applause and for much of the time until G.U.Y.
