I recently made a thread on this to discuss and so i researched the matter and found an interesting yet logical point of view and theory

The universe is estimated to be 13-14 billion years old... But in the first few billion years it was highly caotic and disorderly, even galaxies werent formed properly and unlikely any life sprung...

A few billions years later stars created solar systems but additionally, it takes many millions of years to create planets... And then more time for life to evolve on any viable ones.

So intelligent life in the Universe may have started no earlier than 2-4 billions years ago...

Given how many billions of years the Universe has left... How many solar systems and planets are and will still be forming... When you look long-term, humans are actually among the first to evolve in the universe

That makes sense

But still, maybe there are another life beings far out there that don't need the same conditions we think are essential for life and they evolved to survive in chaotic conditions

true

But inteligence requires complixity. In a very caotic environment that makes it incredibly difficult cause any evolvement coukd be destroyed

I guess its possible some kind of life may have been able to arouse under those conditions... But probably not many at all

E.T. could never.

But seriously, it's a great theory! Maybe we simply ARE the first evolved beings. Of course, there's lightyears of unexplored territory...

So we're like a prototype then :awkney:

well, only if you believe in the idea that we were created by something

I hope there's already other planets with intelligent life on them, although I doubt in any of our lifetimes we'd make contact. I love thinking about this kind of stuff but then I always end up confusing myself, or start thinking about how maybe our brains aren't advanced enough to even process the kind of information needed to be able to make contact with other life forms.

I like the idea that we're the first. When talking about life outside of earth we often tend to talk about it like if there is life outside of this planet then they're likely more advanced than us and if they're hostile. There's a lot of alien invasion movies, stories of alien abduction, UFOs etc...

…But what if we're the hostile, more advanced species? No doubt it's an idea that's been discussed frequently before, but I enjoy thinking about it because it's not as common an idea.

of course given the massive size of the universe and the massive time periods were talking... Even if we are in fact "among the first"... There would still likely be many races millions of years ahead of us already

Also were talking long term vs the universe has a lot of time left and life may have only started a few billion years ago... But as of now swere probably one of the youngest intelligent races

Its just that we have a head start relative to the fact that most races that will come into existance probably arent around yet and we already are

Thats exactly what I've always thought! Scientists always look for life in places with water, but they are merely searching for life that is similar to us. Who's to say that water is actually toxic to other forms of foreign life and instead they thrive on elements we find deadly.

Rollercoaster

can you imagine coming across a civilization from another planet and they're like "You go into pointy buildings and sing to the ceiling?"
