I just think she strongly needs a new team ...I mean from a business and productivity standpoint.

She has one.

It's good that she got rid of the old management team.

Umm yea, everything besides the singles, Hair, Americano, and Government Hooker.

Oh my, what a statement :awesome:

Nah I know it's not a one man job. I just think she strongly needs a new team (or at least some sort of team that could have picked up the slack where here label dropped off regarding the AP era). And no I'm not referring to Dada/Nicola/etc. I mean from a business and productivity standpoint.

Do you know who else besides Troy was on her business team? She refered to the situation as "them" in the interview. Who's them?

LiveNation is her management/business team now. We'll see how that goes.

Yeah, I remember when this was posted last fall. I thought he was only referring to the label when he mentioned a mysterious ubiquitous "they" but when put into context now I suspect he was referring to her management. More and more I notice releases from Interscope artists don't seem to get a huge push. No Doubt's release was pretty uneventful and finished with only 2 singles. Lana's album success seemed to rest on the online tumblr/Pitchfork crowd loving BTD, so it was more reliant on word-of-mouth than anything else. Eminem is a veteran artist with a loyal following - rap/hip-hop fans are loyal like country music fans (as evidenced by Young Jeezy's recent #2 debut with no promo). Nelly Furtado's TSI was just... :wtf:

So between this and LG saying in her SXSW interview that labels are basically running out of money I think it's becoming more up the artists and management to give the album the proper push it needs. That said, I do think the label dropped the ball on this release to an extent, but at the very least you would think that the management she hired would pick it up and try to make the project flourish anyway they could. I remember seeing pics on here of those plain pink hashtag posters hanging up in the streets and being underwhelmed, it felt so tepid and amateur especially after previous campaigns like TFM and BTW. I remember Gaga releasing her track list with the help of her LA fans on twitter, which was a great idea, but it just seems to support view that she was kind of on her own when it came to promo. VMA, GMA, and Swinefest were great, but when you compare her previous promo with the AP one it's much smaller. Even The Fame seemed to have a bigger budget and push than this. She didn't even do any late night interviews or performances in the U.S. at the time, which is crazy when you think about it for a pop star of her stature. Even indie acts and comedy rappers like Childish Gambino did those.

Ok here's where I show my sympathy for interscope! I remember her saying that at SXSW.

Labels have to be very prudent about how they spend their money, considering they don't have any. I mean, that must be why Jimmy Iovine decided to leave and pursue something else. It kind of makes sense why someone would decide to drop a project if it had a bad start.

When you compare ARTPOP to her past albums, the leads were always smash hits. Applause had to deal with the Katy comparisons and a slow start. Everything was so hectic from the beginning. Objectively, if I were a businessman, I'd fold. That's exactly what happened. 3 singles. The end.

On the other hand, Lady Gaga is still one of their biggest brands is she not? She deserves high quality treatment.

Gaga is absolutely one of their biggest brands.

Jimmy moved on because his Beats company is making WAY MORE than he could have made at any record label. He didn't have time to be the chairman of Interscope anymore, not when his company with Dr. Dre was exploding.

There has been a changeover in power and in what Jimmy was delegating to others for a year or two now. (really even longer) The Interscope brand when Gaga first signed with them is completely different than it is today.

Its true, your relationship with people behind the scenes can have alot of impact on how successful an album is. Gaga clearly pissed of alot of her collegues/superiors which is why she wasn't as supported as she was before. She even said it in an interview herself, that by the time the BTWball came around she felt she didn't even have a proper team around her. You can write the an amazing album full of hits but if the right people arent supporting it things can turn to shi*t at the drop of a hat. This is why I think people like Katy Perry are so successful despite releasing fairly mediocre material. Her team is a stable, well oiled machine and they know get sh*it done...

Wouldn't you say that could be the same reason why Troy left Gaga?

And it remains the same story. Jimmy left because other prospects were more attractive. Record labels aren't as profitable as they used to be.

Huh? Troy has NOTHING close to Beats...not remotely close! In 2013 the brand was valued at US $1 billion. In 2014, Apple acquired Beats for US $3 billion in a cash and stock deal, marking the largest acquisition in the company's history.

Jimmy left Interscope for a new job. Troy is still a music manager.

Troy dropped the ball. I can only speculate, but I have suspicions about several events and outcomes....especially since SXSW,  when some information has been shared.

I don't know who to believe anymore. Gaga herself said that the label supports and believes in ARTPOP when she wrote on LM.com about DWUW

Do you hear that? It's poison.

I honestly only see Bad Kids, Fashion of his Love and Black J as being fillers, and I think 2 of those are bonus tracks.  :noparty: What's your definition of "filler"? For me (and I think generally?) it's a meaningless, bland track that serves no purpose other than to make the album longer. Hair and BTW were singles, Americano and Highway Unicorn have pretty strong messages. (I really don't like Americano or Hair btw lol)

I dunno, guess our tastes are different. XD

For me the ultimate example of filler is a song like "Donatella".

i see a filler as a ba--l and bland song that does not have anything special in the composition.
