"They didn't like the album [ARTPOP]."

You are putting everything onto a big pile tho and make 1 soup out of it.

The label would not have released the album if they would really put their foot down, cause it's their profit, they make the arrangements for that (like studio time etc).

A manager is hired by Gaga to promote the album or work he's been given by the artist. That's his job, it's what he's paid for to do.

If he didn't like the album, tough, make it work, you getting royally paid.

As far as I'm concerned, a label coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, and promotion of an album. They can decide to release something, but not bother to promote it. Honestly, labels release so many albums a year, but most fall into obscurity because they don't invest in their trajectories. They're assessed as unlikely to be a hit.

A manager acts as a sort of business advisor for the artists, regarding investments and sponsorship; which, I'm assuming is coordinating with record label efforts. That's just my common sense and basic knowledge of 'artist brands.' I'm actually not really sure if it's fair or unfair to pile them into one cause.

I also think it was a combination of things. Troy may have wanted it to work, but his heart may have been mostly for the profit or public image-- which could potentially dilute the meaning of a piece of work. [99 cent deal alert] Another thing to consider is that we all know Troy Carter was expanding his business ventures. LM.com was just one part of Backplane, which Carter owns. Promoting ARTPOP would no longer be a priority if he was profiting more elsewhere. That voids the argument that "her music will still bring you money, you should give it 100% effort."

This is actually a pretty complex issue for the fact that we really don't know (and Gaga is not "legally allowed to talk about...").

I do agree that what happened with her label and what happened with Troy went in different directions; but, in the end, they both resulted in the ARTPOP era's premature halt.

If they didn't like the album, they should have never allowed her to release it. end of story.

I have to agree just because u didn't like the album that doesn't mean u don't promote it.

In the end it was for the good she split with Troy.

This album could have been a lot of things but sadly it didn't happen and from now on I just hope that no matter what everyone will first trust Gaga and put her always infront not like it was last year.

AND ONE MORE THING HOW ONE EARTH  THEY LIKED BTW AND THEY DID NOT LIKE ARTPOP LIKE WTF BITCH :fthis: #Justice4ARTPOPakaTHEBESTALBUMOFTHEMILLENIUM

Doesn't inter scope get loads of money from her tour though??

I would've thought they would want decent exposure for the £Â£Ã‚£ from ticket sales

to each their own.

this so much. thank you so much for posting this.

If only one person on the team had faith in the product, there was obviously something wrong.

Look at Born This Way. It had every sign that it could have failed, that it could have been awful. The cover, the preachy title, the descriptions, everything was set up for it to be a trainwreck, but look at her team... They all put a ton of effort into it, promoted it, and it felt like it had actual support from someone other than Gaga herself.

They didn't promote the album properly because they didn't like it? :deadbanana:

After they saw how well Applause performed, they should have at least been on board with the era.

Unfortunately even Applause didn't get the promotion it was supposed to get, do you remember Gaga going on Little Monsters and posting the song cover there? She was basically promoting it on her own.

Her manager + her record label didn't give a f#ck about any of the ARTPOP songs whatsoever.

They had 0 faith in the album because the album had 0 effort and talent put into it.

Whoa, there.  I am no huge fan of the album except some songs, but it was a decent album with a few really great songs.  If the sales didn't take off after the first week of the album dropping (big drop second week), after putting a lot of effort and money into the first single promowise, they weren't going to keep pouring money into promotion.  Gaga's promotion costs are big.  That GUY video looks like it cost a fortune and because it was so long took a long time to make.  A shorter one coming out sooner after the holdup with DWYW would have been the smarter way to go to get some momentum going.  She could have done two videos for that.  They did do the DWYW video as the second music video, but I agree it should have been shelved.  Gaga I think was mad over that.  But the backlash I believe would have hurt her as an artist being with such pervs in a video like she shot and think they made the right call.  But they did pay for that video, which I'm sure cost money.

The promotion turned out to be a mess and had to be a tough time for Gaga, feeling let down.  Everyone on here has an opinion on the songs that would have made a difference as a single.  But besides Applause, which was a strong single, I just don't think the public was there for the music this time as far as singles even if switched.  Ultimately, it's a business, not just music.  That's where many artists get burned out and turned off to the industry.
