Lady Gaga: "I crashed. I just didn’t even want to make music anymore."

Umm hello she just spent a whole era saying how badly people wanted her to be a hit and how she's fed up of it... Now she wants that back? She said her label didn't want her to release Born This Way due to it only appealing to a niche but they let her do it anyway and continued to support her, they just pushed her in the right direction regarding her artistic visions.

Seriously people need to stop going in for previous management and how she was apparently mistreated as it was them that got her where she is today. We and she (I hope she can see it) don't give them enough credit and only highlight possible goof ups by them with hindsight such as Judas' release etc

Um, most respectfully (correct me if I am misunderstanding your point), without Judas and Born This Way I never would have given her my time. I know I can't be the only one who preferred it all to previous works. But then maybe I am a "niche".

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

Uhm shouldn't that be seen as a compliment tho? It's not like we're calling her a flop that will never top herself again.

I beg to differ. During the ARTPOP era this forum was littered with threads about how she was over because ARTPOP supposedly "flopped" and that she needed to go back to being the "old Gaga" if she wanted the GP to love her again.

Let's not kid ourselves, this fanbase can be extremely critical and unsupportive.

Girl Under You

I have a good feeling that her next album is going to be her best, and it's going to slay. She's learned a lot from ARTPOP, she's gotten back in touch with her musical roots with Cheek the Cheek, and we all know this b---h won't go down without a fight.

This this and this

People expect too much from Gaga, especially this fanbase. This fanbase it's extremely critical about everything she does, it's not like we have to agree with everything she does, but at least they have to respect her work. I'm not a fan of Cheek to Cheek, but I still support Gaga. There's things I have not liked, like when that girl vomited on her. What I'm trying to say is that we don't have to like everything she does, but at least respect her work. She works so hard on everything that she does. And she loves us. Most popstars don't even care.

Comments here just prove monsters still don't get it.... How can you say things like "her next album will be her best" "she's com back to slay" "she won't go down without a fight" when you've just read an interview saying of how people expect too much of her??? God...

Better she realized this later than never.

She should take it as a compliment that people hold her to such a high standard, but I understand how that can completely **** up certain things, because people will always complain about what she's doing now isn't up to par with her past works. She set the bar high for herself and this was bound to happen. It always does with new artists who reach stardom as quickly like her.

Gaga's overly-ambitious and that can be seen as a blessing and a curse, but I appreciate that she's always willing to go the extra mile with everything she does. She's never restraining herself and that's something I always liked about her. With this Jazz album, she's sort of taking a backseat and pacing herself, and I think within the next year or so, she'll possibly be back and rejuvenated cause it seems like the whole 2013 year (Born This Way Ball cancellation, hip-injury, ARTPOP album critical+commercial controversy) wasn't in her favor; but the next album may work out well which is great.

I'll be here waiting.

Well said. With overall album sales continue to decline every year due to the rise of music streaming, it would be more challenging, if not unattainable, to outsell an album released at the time when streaming wasn't as strong as it is today. Commercial-wise, it's safe to say The Fame (Monster) is her commercial peak, in the same way we could safely say that Baby One More Time is Britney Spears' commercial peak. Notice that both albums are their mainstream debuts, wherein public interest towards their music was understandably at an all-time high.

Like you've mentioned, this rare scenario is always expected among artists who had made it really big with their debut efforts. The bigger the rise since the beginning, the more noticeable (and the more eagerly awaited) the decline would become. Of course, there's no one stopping these artists to gain more smash hits. Out-peaking single sales is a lot easier and realistic (as shown by recent history) than out-peaking album sales. And this isn't only limited to Gaga or Britney or whoever who made it big with their first album. This applies to all artists with a string of hits. I'm just glad Gaga (once again) highlighted this reality. Those who are not familiar with how the industry and the brand lifecycle work need this to end the fantasy thinking.

First of all, where in this article does it say that she just wants hits and commercial success now? You're assuming that by "keeping the train on the tracks" she means that she's gonna try to get #1's by listening to every little thing that her label says she should. It most likely means that she doesn't want to just drop the ball again, which she did.

Second of all, you're reading too much into her shade directed toward people in the industry. Like, just because admits she hates the fact that her label made her sing a certain way to be commercial doesn't mean she wants to throw them away. She has praised her label and many occasions - many more times than she has shaded them. I really don't think you understand her relationship with her label so that's probably why you're so quick to judge. The way I see it, it's kinda like how fans praise and shade Gaga. You have to right to condemn and not support things she does, but at the end of the day, you're still a fan.

Her label and management are given credit and praise when it's due - when it's the matter at hand. The matter at hand right now is the mismanagement and deceit she experienced, which resulted in her "crashing the train in the middle of era." When good promo is announced this fan base is, for the most part, cognizant and grateful of the figures that may have been involved. LM.com and the ARTPOP app were regarded as potentially genius innovation in artist-fan interaction -- everyone knew Troy was behind that. Everyone knows Iovine was behind smart single decisions. Boomkack created the epic Bad Romance choreo. So, I don't know where you come off saying people don't recognize that her label makes good commercial decisions. But, just because those people created successes, doesn't mean they were good people to her.

And, sure, her label very much supported Born This Way. Promotion all over the place. But ARTPOP? Rumor on the street around the release was that her label didn't like it and weren't gonna promote it that much. Whether or not that is true, ARTPOP did get shafted in terms of promotion when you compare it to BTW. Coincidentally, Gaga began to bad mouth industry figures around this time.

That really shows how she was affected by the way ARTPOP was received. That's why I think she will do everything to win the GP back with her next album.

I highly doubt it's on her priority list tbh

True Monsters, that is. Unlike those assholes who complained about her music not being good anymore. I will always love GaGa.
