Quebec separatists felt the same way after their first referendum loss in 1980, but it never happened. They did better in 1995 (after a couple frustrating failures at constitutional reform), but still lost. After several decades of separatist tension and uncertainly, the present youth are more federalist than their elders. In 15-20 years, the UK PM may be more popular, the SNP may have more political baggage from actually governing a devolved Scotland, or the oil may be more depleted and less profitable. Who knows if UK will have left Europe or the EU will have disintegrated in other ways? PS: Newfoundland only voted 52-48% to join Canada rather than be independent in the late 40's, and that decision has remain settled to this day. While Devo Max offers the prospect of getting this within a more federal UK state, the EU messing up might spoil it as an alternative federal option to fall back upon. Scotland government will get more powers, and there will be pressure to devolve powers in England too. UK might even end up a real federal state like US, Canada, Australia, and Germany. What form it takes likely will depend on who wins next election. Tories (logically) don't want to give Scotland Devo-Max and let there MPs have full say on English-only issues. But Alex Salmond is more of a decent man than David Cameron things have improved for me and my family since David Cameron was elected, unemployment is at the lowest it's been for years (the BBC said 2008 but my economics teacher said 2004 so I don't know) We're in an economic recovery, so I don't really know what else someone can want from their government. That's been the British Government since the start of the union I agree that for a good part of the tories 'reign' things haven't been very good for a large amount of people, but 1. quite a lot of the stuff that's been happening now is a rollover effect of past governmental policies 2. a lot of the economic downturn, poverty and unemployment is a result of the 2008 banking crisis, not the tory reign. 3. No government can make it all okay, but increasing expenditure on the poor will lead to a decrease in expenditure in other sectors like health care etc... I'd love to see what Left wingers would say if the government completely pulled out money for health care, education and benefits, things could be a lot worse 4. the rich people run the world, it's the truth and if u don't like it, go and run for prime minister.
