I feel so guilty but I feel like there's a difference. Some animals are not self-aware. If they looked in the mirror, they would think there's another animal. Generally speaking, smaller animals are way less smart, do everything out of instinct and have no self-awareness. They do not really 'think' or have true emotions. I think that you can freely eat them if you want to. Cows, horses, dogs(!!), elephants (!!), dolphins (!!), etc. have self-awareness, a lot of emotional capabilities and are quite smart too.
