ByeBye49 161
Is this REALLY all you people picked up from this video? No, I just read the thumbnail and wanted to state that I don't think "hey white people" is the best way to start off.
The Professor 1,060
Prejudice is not an exclusive trait But racism is. rac·ism (ˈrÄËŒsizÉ™m) noun the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. in other words, exactly what you said

ByeBye49 161
Implying every white people are horrible are making this campaign flawed in itself. Bye. Basically this as well. "Hey white people" <----- Stupid thumbnail "The entire video" <----- Why make it out like all 'whites' are bad. Like. What.
Morphine Prince 109,648
Although the intent of the video was good starting off by "Hey, white people" isn't going to garner positive reactions. And why are they using children? I hate when campaigns do that. It just makes the cause seem like it has no actual basis when you have to resort to putting children who've been told what to say in your video instead of adults that can actually think for themselves. The second half of the video was better than the first. Racism is obviously still and issue, but imo how about we start reducing crime altogether? Blacks form 13% of the US population and have the highest percentage of crime rates in the country. Hispanics come in second.

Hispanics come in second. Because the court systems are for more likely to convict minorities of crimes than the majority. Hence the frisking statistic. Frisking doesn't mean you actually have anything, but minorities are 10 times more likely to get automatically frisked than white people because we're institutionally let to think they're always guilty or up to something. It's not dead but by making everything about race all we're doing it keeping it alive. Not saying this video is wrong, just a general observation. I'm aware of the frisking issue and that's actually totally based on race. Crime is still higher in minority groups though.

But how can we rely on crime statistics that are based on law enforcement, which in itself is disproportionately applied to minorities? When white people are systematically less likely to be suspected, stopped, and questioned, obviously they're also less likely to be found guilty of a crime. The Professor 1,060
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institutional_racism It is unfortunate that historically whites have had control over government and most economic assets, however; 1. It does not speak about the character of individuals born today (you don't chose to be born a certain race) and 2. There are minority exclusive programs to shorten this disparity between races. One example being minority-owned business in the U.S receiving special grants and resources to become competitive. "In order to help small, disadvantaged businesses compete in the marketplace, the SBA created the 8(a) Business Development Program. Some minority groups are presumed to be socially and economically disadvantaged and can qualify for the 8(a) program. These groups include: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian Pacific Americans and Subcontinent Asian Americans. Participants can receive sole-source contracts, up to a ceiling of $4 million for goods and services and $6.5 million for manufacturing. While we help 8(a) firms build their competitive and institutional know-how, we also encourage you to participate in competitive acquisitions. The 8(a) Program is an essential instrument for helping socially and economically disadvantaged entrepreneurs gain access to the economic mainstream of American society." Source: http://www.sba.gov/content/about-8a-business-development-program People shouldn't be expected to pay for the wrong deeds of their ancestors. What's important is that we work towards a society that equally values all races and removes stigma. Are minority groups such as blacks socially and economically disadvantaged? Of course, but placing blame on a single race is counter productive. Of course, but placing blame on a single race is counter productive. Its like Gays saying "listen up straight people" in their fight for marriage equality But white males control the vast majority of capital and hiring resources in this country, and are thereby able to make the (as we know) discriminatory hiring decisions that directly affect black people and keep them systematically oppressed. So, technically white individuals (obviously not all white individuals) ARE to blame.
Prometheus 1,494
"hey white people" BYE Same FUCKING SAME http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institutional_racism Institutional racism is a different issue than general racism. A black person can be racist toward a Chinese person and a Latino can be racist toward a white person. I was with friends (who happen to be black) and one person who was friends with one of my friends (also black). They were going on about how weird white people are. How over-friendly and quirky we are. The one person who wasn't my friend turned to me and said, "Don't worry. I'm sure you're different. It's okay I say this because I have white friends." It wasn't even meant in an ironic way. So.

When white people are systematically less likely to be suspected, stopped, and questioned, obviously they're also less likely to be found guilty of a crime. 63% of the US is white. 13% is Black. I understand that whites are less likely to be found guilty of crimes, but percentage wise, we can't deny that minorities commit more crimes and that prisons are full of Blacks and Hispanics. If prisons weren't full of minorities maybe all the stigma towards certain races would stop
