Alannah 2,987
A lot of the teachers at my school come off as really big a-holes. They could have just been exaggerating their opinion to see how much passion you have for something you love. My voice teacher made me cry so I could have a more raw emotion on stage instead of just acting. Now, I realize that this isn't acting per se, but it's the same concept. I'm not saying that they were right by any means, or if this was their intention, but that happens a lot with art schools. They rip down the mainstream because they're often jealous of successful people. I notice that a lot with my professors at my internship right now, and it's just sad. Don't let them get you down, and you don't need their teachings if they're going to be so closed minded.

freebit 6,240
As long as you made well reasoned arguments to defend your (very bold) choice I think you should be fine. Also, yes, it's true even if some of you you disagree, Lady Gaga IS an artist, let's not with this ~real artist! crap.
5 Threat 5
I think they were asking about artist not artiste tho
SKYER 2
Art is subjective. They should know that.
Haunts 7
You should have name-dropped a few of Gaga's friends: Jeff Koons, Marina Abramovic and Robert Wilson. Those 3 are artists your art teachers should know about and respect. To me that's a testimony to Gaga's credibility as an artist, if these amazingly talented people (who actually know a **** or two about art) respect and contribute to her work, so should everybody else. Actually, just her dedication to the visual arts+fashion on a daily basis should be respected by any art lover. She single-handedly managed to make art look cool again in the mainstream. Art teachers should celebrate that.
ByeBye49 161
My entire school is against Gaga, I know how you feel. If they fail you JUST because it wasn't about who their definition of an "artist" is, you should report them because that is a load of crap.

aaronyoji 2,054
That's a shame because I feel like gaga of all people creates such a strong dialogue about art.

Betty Who 62
What kind of rude art teachers, that they would just drag your fave without even giving you a chance In the first week of a performance class that I took, the entire lecture was based on Gaga: we watched Born This Way and Alejandro and a--lysed them. (For that same class, I wrote an essay about how Gaga uses performance art to dismantle gender roles, using You & I and the Haus of U videos as examples). A couple of the lecturers were stans (especially for Alejandro), but even the ones that weren't were still able to contribute to the discussion about her work in a respectful and thoughtful way. Your teachers can seethe, Gaga is a performance artist, and they should probably set aside their issues with her performing in space and realise that
MaybeKermit 4,966
My English teacher was a die-hard madonna fan, and he made it very VERY clear that he hatedGaga/was annoyed by her. For months, we had to study the similarities between EY - BTW, EY - ALEJANDRO,.....but I didn't say anything, I just sat there and waited, 'till the time was right... He gave us an assignement; we had to discuss a perfect example of 'imitation' like (in his opinion) ALEJANDRO did with EY... I didn't discuss AN example: I just printed this picture of everything Madonna copied from other artists (especially Marilyn) and gave it to him... http://westboro-baptist-blog.tumblr.com/post/15860153865/reductive From that moment, he started teaching us real things :toofloppy: #dragdat***t

MaybeKermit 4,966
Wow he seemed like an obsessed guy ! yes he was... Once he was saying sth about artists with sold-out shows, and he said: 'Well not sold-out shows like Lady Gaga, she couldn't sell out a lot of shows during her BTWB so they only made half of the stadiums available for her shows
