willmcclure72 34
it seems to me he has really downplayed his s-xuality on purpose for mass appeal. I mean i know everyone isnt a flaming queen but when you look at his old twitter and stuff he just seems so subdued now. This
ThatSLAYGUY 68
But just by being gay and popular he is already helping. He's a musician, people care about his music, he doesn't need to do anything else. +
Bye 3,947
Willy Wonka and rarigoes slaying this thread and spilling the truth tea Y'all should be happy an out young gay man has managed to make it big and y'all should treat him as any other person not as a gay person. He has no obligation, he doesn't even "ought to" promote gay rights, he didn't make a dick move, he is simply a young man making a big debut in the music industry. The fact that he came out right around the release of his album and that he's unafraid to say his songs were inspired by his love of another man should be enough. DrewStevens 5,249
So like this? I've seen those pictures before and I understand why he has changed his image. It is not the same looking like that when you have 200 friends on facebook than looking like that when the whole world is watching you and the media is there all the time trying to get the best gossip. He is very young so he may be scared of what the world is going to say about him. I can't judge a young man who probably is dealing with a lot of pressure from his management and his own insecurities at the same time.
CDAR 25
Well I think he doesn't want people asking him to make more "queer-oriented" songs. He's an artist he'll do his work for his own reasons
Whispering 18,865
Mama was giving you GAY for days, that's just the truth of the matter. I think it's fair to conclude that he's something of a poser but still support him as an artist. Everyone is actually doing that so... No, they really aren't. Sam is his name. The truth of the matter is this: And this:

somechick 1
He doesn't have to be a spokesperson just because he's gay an famous. I totally understand that not everyone would want to do that.
Mast 980
It's not like it's his job or something. I respect it, if it's his decision This. And although it might sound selfish, he has a point by saying becoming a spokesman would destroy the feeling of normalcy he's achieved.
Mr Josh 3
I think that those who want every famous gay person to be a 'spokesperson' are just insecure.
Levine 22,780
That's much more easy and coward. It takes some BALLS to be a gay spokesperson, HUGE balls! Especially in this climate full of hatred toward us.
Vanilla 660
That's much more easy and coward. It takes some BALLS to be a gay spokesperson, HUGE balls! Especially in this climate full of hatred toward us. I just think it's more a case of he wants to be known as Sam Smith and not gay recording artist Sam Smith I won't die, but I can't live without you
craig 680
That's much more easy and coward. It takes some BALLS to be a gay spokesperson, HUGE balls! Especially in this climate full of hatred toward us.The biggest problem would be the hate coming from other gays.Who does he think he is? He does speak for me! He doesn't represent me properly! Yadda yadda.Look at all the hate from some gays for BTW
zack 15
I actually believe it's important. It's great to have gay (or gay friendly like Gaga) artists that are always publicly fighting for the right of being gay, but it's also great to have gay artists just interested in being artists, not giving a damn if they are straight gay or whatever. I believe that's important to show that gays are also 'normal/common' people
