COLONiCPRiNXESS 1
This sums up the whole situation, and is why every day I find myself liking Gaga less and less. And if you had told me this a year ago, I would never have believed you - Gaga really helped me to grow up and establish my identity, and I always pictured myself loving her forever. One of the things I have always admired about Gaga is her relentless work ethic. Her huge success is a direct result of the sheer amount of effort she put into her work. From the second I saw her walking around in plaid shirts and Dope beanies, I knew that Lady Gaga was over. She had maintained a mystique and an illusion for her entire career, her life according to her was a 'work of art'. The moment she actively chose to let that slide was the moment I knew this era would disappoint me. And as predicted, this laziness was soon reflected in the music, the tour, the videos, the fashion and even the promo. Back in the Born This Way era, it seemed like we had a new interview every other day, now we're lucky to get any at all. Gaga has lost her spark or her interest - or both. It feels now like she is only doing this to get a quick buck. And unfortunately for her, she has dug her own grave; her enigma and mystique is something she will never be able to retrieve. The second she chose to slack off, it was gone forever. This...

FameHungry 146
I've been thinking of that theory ever since Swinefest. That Keynote interview for SXSW was the closest we've gotten to knowing what she thinks of the music industry at present but it seemed like she doesn't want that for herself either anymore and leaving Gaga behind is the next step to getting closer to what she wants next. She wants to break free from Gaga and pursue an entirely new direction. She brought the rawness of her artistry to Swinefest and it was like a sneak peek of what she wants now. CookieHWilson 684
This this this. People make up all kinds of theories when really she's becoming lazy with her work. Lazy? Do you really think so? (it's an honest question) nonsequitur
Hewkah 48
It is a complete cop out to me to think that Gaga planned this all along. No, I'm sorry, but that's just not the case. Perhaps she does indeed want to further herself from her past - and perhaps she does want to leave the "Lady Gaga" brand behind, but saying that she planned 'all along' to completely wreck her own era is sickeningly laughable. She had a bad era, end of story. Management was off, false promises out of her ass, not to mention the GP just not being that into her. Why Gaga was originally so big, was the fact she was an aura of mysteriousness. Who was this girl? She wasn't anything we'd seen in years. Like others have said - once she got artistically lazy, she immediately lost that 'mystification'. and was no longer "Lady Gaga." Lady Gaga, for me, was the personification of ambiguity. She could be anything; she was everything; she was so different compared to other people at the time. Now that she's no longer that characterization, and is more 'herself', she's no longer the same performer, artist, and singer that she once was. Perhaps by completely reinventing herself next era, may the GP finally love her again. Who knows...
PopBitch 1,218
I take some of the things she says with a grain of salt. That said, I do believe she is at a crossroads about how she wants to evolve and proceed from here on out. Yep.
Pluto 776
Lazy? Do you really think so? (it's an honest question) Yep. Dangerous Man 9,245
Interesting read but I don't buy this. Her underperformance wasn't planned or pre-determined. It was just a messy era. Don't tell me firing Troy was also her plan? Lol. "A little less conversation and a little more touch my body."
DontDoubtDavid 1,191
I feel that when Gaga flops, fans just make up an excuse that she's doing it on purpose to help her with the next era. Guys, I really don't think Gaga is as complicated as we wish she would be. She's a musical genius and always gives us great music, but I don't think she's as elaborate in planning eras as we think; that's all up to her management. SEANGT 5,254
The ARTPOP era already was supposed to be a brand new thing for her... Remember when she said she scrapped every rule she had been following till then ? I mean, it was a brand new thing. before she wasn't revealing herself behind the persona and now she is. She's really revealing her full self in order to destroy the fantasy. The fantasy she created to aquire her fame. Of course...that came with less fame this era. It's weird how it makes sense. I don't think she really plans these things out. But the way she presents her work always lets you make cool connections to the past.
craig 680
There is too much of thr real SG is Gaga for her to just drop that personality. Her brand of pop music will need to change because that sound isn't as popular anymore. Her singles success has been spotty since she stopped working with Red One.

Little7Monster 0
I don't think artists spend that kind of money to make an album so it will fail, only to "surprise" everyone with a better album next time. She took a risk and a gamble, and made the music she said she wanted to make, and even claimed that it "lacked maturity", which was one of the complaints that came up in reviews. While the music was fun, and most fans enjoyed the album, I think an important lesson was learned: Gaga needs to make her music mature. While yes, this could be the close of the "old" Gaga, and the beginning of a newer version, I think it is important to realize that people succeed, and people fail. And as quickly as our population falls in and out of love with an artist, the time may never come where Gaga is the topic of everyone's conversation. The times of her beginning are over, and the has branded herself into culture, but now it is her chance to build on that foundation to see how far her legacy goes. All the outfits, performances, and videos will no longer be the feeling point for her because we have become desensitized to her technique, therefore it is time to create true, quality music that the people want. Cheek to Cheek is a fun play in a different genre, and I think it will do well for her, and help her reach a different audience, showing a more mature, restrained Gaga, which will open the doors to becoming a musician for not just "Little Monsters", but adults alike (I understand there are adult fans, but most are younger). After her management shakeup, and the underperformance of her last album, Gaga is in a reevaluation phase where she must decide her next move carefully. I believe she will say goodbye to the "old" style Gaga she was, while still retaining her own qualities, and build it into a more mature version. If anything can be learned from this, people need to stop hyping what doesn't exist, and appreciate what is delivered. Saying something will "slay" doesn't add value to the product. Accept what is, and love what is there. Having high expectations is not a crime, but there is a fine line between expecting something, and assuming it is fact and being upset. In the end, we either like it or we don't. Let's just be happy because we got something at all. Hard work goes into every creation, no matter how you feel about it.
