No, it's her "worst" album.

1. No theme. "anything" = nothing

2. Lyrics aren't to the same standard as Born This Way/TFM but lack the fun of The Fame.

3. The production sounds dated, the other albums (especially Born This Way) have a timeless feel to them but ARTPOP sounds like it was supposed to be released in 2012.

4. None of the other genres (INSERT GENRE/POP) are properly explored. MANiCURE sounds like a Bratz track, Swine is cold on the table when it should be burning up etc etc

5. The tracks sound unfinished and lacklustre, there's something missing on every single one.

Born This Way > The Fame Monster > The Fame > ARTPOP

Actually there are many things that differentiates this album from current albums. What song slon the radio sounds like Aura, Venus, and Swine for example? Or what radio songs sing about rape, about the Applause, or about how art and pop belong together?.

He's talking the sounds itself, while you're talking about lyrics.

On that note, while I love Swine's suject matter and lyrics and overall structure, I wish it followed the Swinefest version more closely.

3 points in and ready for more

Well, in my opinion on ARTPOP we can see the best melodies Gaga has ever composed, every song has a great melody in at least one part of the song: Aura's chorus, Venus' bridge, Applause's hook, GUY's bridge and chorus, MJH's hook... However, while on BTW biggest mistakes were, imo, Gaga's fault (sometimes cause the melody wasn't good as it happens with Bad Kids' chorus or sometimes cause she wanted to be so experimental that she just ruined some songs like Government Hooker with that falsetto) on this album the biggest mistakes are made by the producers. Apart from Aura (whose production is a sample) and Venus (produced by Gaga), all productions are basic, generic, bad and/or bring nothing new to what Gaga's done before. Sometimes it's cause they went too commercial (Applause, Donatella, Gypsy...), sometimes cause it has kind of a lo-fi development (MJH, Fashion!...)... While on BTW I could see an imperfect album (it's impossible to make a perfect album with more than 11 tracks imo) but where a truly artist made whatever she wanted, on ARTPOP I see and impressively experimented and skillful composer that was forced to make songs just to sell (JnD to appeal to hip-hop lovers, DWUW cause 90's is the next big thing on pop, GUY to have success on charts...). Maybe you could say I just think this cause I dislike the album but there are some clues that show it is true: for example, she showed her album to her record 11 months (!!) before the release, and after that instead of making final changes she kept composing so it's clear they didn't like what they heard; Gaga was so excited with tracks like Tea (someone from her team, don't remember who, said it was a great song) but strangely we never got them while we got other tracks like Donatella of which we hadn't heard of till a few weeks before the release...; there was a leak of the early demos of Applause from which we learned she was given an instrumental (imo, one of her most basic ones ever) and she had to compose over it, and guess what, the most generic part (at least for me and lots of fans), the chorus, doesn't appear, so it may be something they added later when they saw the song wasn't a hit yet (Gaga herself said she didn't want Applause to be on the album so...); and finally the Venus non-release as a single which is strange cause it's obvious Gaga was excited bout it (3 covers with the great Steven Klein) but it was too dark while DWUW was full of light and really catchy.

I don't think ARTPOP is a bad album, for me it's the beginning of the consolidation of Gaga as the best composer on pop right now, but it's clearly a piece of art that was ****ed up because their record wanted TFM-sized sells and not BTW-sized ones. That's why I think it's not her best album, but it isn't her worst at all.

Okay sorry for this extremely long post.

I want to say YES because it seems to be the most complex. It's not necessarily the music but ideas behind the music. Looking into the album like a gazing ball finding the hidden meanings and most of all the references. But she also keeps everything kind of vague to let you create your own interpretations which is what Art is in the first place.

This is probably why it's over most of the general public's head and considered a flop.

They just don't want to look deeper to see the creative genius behind it, or dont even realize what's in front of them. They need you to spell it out for them.

And through all of this it is a genuine POP album.

(I do prefer Born this way, but only because the message spoke to me during a difficult time in my life)

TFM will remain her best in my IMO and AP is second.

All this thread is going to do is give certain members that always complain about  the album an opportunity to drag the album to the pits.

I think Swine is one of the best songs on ARTPOP, and Jewels N' Drugs is a good song.

welp i guess that's why opinions are subjective :miley:

And it also is the most vulnerable she has been, by letting us see behind the curtain of the so called persona. It makes her seem more human.
