ARTPOP is the most underrated album ever

This thread is a mess.

Regardless, I love ARTPOP and do think it is underrated. Probably at least a third of my favorite Gaga songs are from AP.

I think a lot of people on this thread have had their opinion colored by the negative press reaction and poor execution of the era. (Of course it's okay to dislike AP too). However, it's inevitable that some of that stuff seeps in.

What I wanna know is if you haven't liked anything Gaga has done since 2010 then why you still here? That's just having 4 years of negativity being spread. :wtf:

But anyway.. Everyone who is realistic knows that if ARTPOP had TFM single success and BTW album sales they'd be like "Omg totes the best yaaasss Gaga you are kween yaaass." :lmao:

When did this thread become a church?

I've got three singles that can deny their "hit" ability.

First of all, Applause IS a bonified hit, so why don't you learn to count?

Second, having a hit has very little to do with the quality of the music. There is timing, momentum, luck, public opinion, and radio's music tastes to account for. If Gaga had released G.U.Y. as a fifth single off the Fame, it would have gone Top 10 at least.

Doesn't matter how connected she is to them. That doesn't make them factually good. They're crap. I will discredit ARTPOP, for good reason. She can do a lot better, and has done in the past.

The only thing that's crap is your attitude.

This continues to blow my mind. When I got sick of Madonna's material, I just left the fanbase. I didn't stick around on forums to b---h and whine. :laughga:

I bet half the naysayers in this thread were probably creaming themselves over ARTPOP before the reviews started coming in. :toofunny:

except we've all repeatedly said that we "were not" indeed "creaming our pants" or jumping for joy when the album came out. I was actually dissapointed on first listen, as were many other fans. Not that the songs were bad, it just felt like a downgrade from born this way and we waited 2 effing years! I don't know why you continue to use the "it's only cause the critics bashed it that you don't like it" comeback. Because clearly if you actually read this thread you'd see the discussion is about THE MUSIC not the charting power. The only thing we've said otherwise is denied the music itself were "made to be hits" because one of the "made to be radio hits" songs that gaga also claimed in interviews was "prime single material" ended up being her most awfully received "hit" ever (with an enormous music video the likes of which we haven't seen since judas I might add). Why is it so hard for you to possibly fathom someone else may have another opinion other than your own? Why is it so hard for you to accept that everyone's tastes and opinions are different and they LITERALLY DONT AFFECT YOU AT ALL. Last time I checked I'm allowed to express my own opinion just as much as you are allowed to rave about the album. What is this...1984? Are you the thought police? Also quit "ass"uming" so much when you are clearly in the wrong. It just makes you look unintelligent and sassy. :tea::awkney: :tea:

I doubt anyone is swayed by whether it's a hit. That sounds like sour grapes from people that refuse to accept that someone isn't crazy about it. My experience and how I usually am is I tend to like the album at first just because I like that artist and it's new and try to really like it or maybe even do because of the excitement of new music from them. But as I replay it over and over I realize I'm just not feeling it and eventually I stop forcing myself to play it and just stay with the single songs I like. Conversely, I have hated or not liked certain albums at first and after repeated listens I love it. That's a "grower." It's immature to say people aren't crazy about ARTPOP because it got some negative reviews, blah, blah, and that attitude reeks of certain fans who can't accept it's just not beloved by some and so throw out disses at those people describing them as sheep blindly following how an album is received without minds of their own.

I loved MDNA at first because I was a fan and gave it the benefit of the doubt and I like some of the music. As time went on, with every repeated listen I lost more and more interest in it and finally admitted my complete dissatisfaction with it and gave away the CD and deleted it off of my iTunes, except a few songs. The same with Christina Aguilera's album. It had no staying power for me. It wasn't a bad album, just was not going to be a great album or a classic that I go back to for years to come.

As a fan, I think you start out loving the new music because you love the artist and are just excited to get new music. It's how you feel a month later after listening to it over and over that is the real feeling about it. I can listen to ARTPOP and enjoy it okay if I skip a few songs, but it never stays with me and I don't think about listening to it again. There's no desire there. Now certain songs I still play, just not the whole album.

I agree with you about the new music thing, but if you keep reading things about ARTPOP being a flop and the music quality being poor, whether it be a forum post or a professional article, it eventually becomes harder and harder to believe 'hey this is a great album'. Not everyone is as resolute and self-aware as you. Advertising and the media have proven that it's not difficult to influence opinion. This is especially relevant considering how messy the era was in terms of performances and promo. It left a sour taste in a lot of fan's mouths, and that has changed the way people look at the music. Just look at how this fanbase's opinion of G.U.Y. changed after it failed as a single.

And I'm not discounting you're opinion. It's okay that AP isn't your fave. But most people are more open to outside influence than you give them credit for (myself included, I went through a whole thing with MTN after it flopped). Maybe you know how you feel, but a lot of people won't realize their true opinion on AP until a couple years from now when it's totally in the past and we have new music.

I wouldn't say ARTPOP is underrated, but I think there was definitely an issue with the stigma surrounding it. People gave the album crap not because of their opinion of the album, but because of what surrounded the album and their opinion on Gaga. That nullifies their opinion, to me.

On actual personal, individual critique, I think ARTPOP is rated seen equally as it is (this is just my opinion)- a smart, complex album collectively, but overall individually not on par with her previous works, both in writing and in production. It's not bad by any means, it's a damn good album- just not as good as Born This Way*.

*I think Born This Way gets a lot of crap from fans because of the "era" (which I thought was perfectly fine, btw), same as ARTPOP got a lot of crap from the media

3 points in and ready for more

Stop babbling. I'm speaking from experience. When the album came out, this forum was blowing up with positive comments and praise. Everybody was talking about their favourite singles and songs that would smash. I'm sure SOME fans had negative opinions at the time and still hold those opinions (including you), but I'm equally certain the vast majority changed their tune when the era "flopped".

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!
