Benji 20,113
She doesn't entertain me, I don't believe shes much of an entertainer, I don't feel she deserves much credit. And I don't say this as a "gaga fan" (as I know my being one seems to unfortunately and against my will invalidate my personal opinion of Katy by default) I say this as someone who appreciates pop music. I mean honestly we'll probably keep going in circles seeing as we're on two different ends of the spectrum in regards to Katy Perrys validity, but im just throwing my point of view out into the ether and thats it. Just a discussion of the frivolous. And I appreciate and respect your opinion since you opted in to discuss yours with me but currently (as much as I would love these numbers to be else well (in Gaga's corner or what ever)) her success is a clear indication that what she is creating is working for her on a basic level of accessibility and likeability. Don't get me wrong, I don't see her as an artist of integrity or even creativity but she is doing what she strives to do, be successful. I appreciate pop music too so surely you can identity someone who is striving for hits instead of creating songs and albums that carry a message or integrity? Perry has none but she constantly delivers on light hearted entertainment and that is something a lot of people can eat up. She's not here to educate or inspire, she's here to entertain and that is what she does.
Benji 20,113
Drop the off-topic Gaga argument. I brought Gaga up as a comparison as she's an artist who is often pitted against Katy? Me and blacklisted aren't arguing, we're merely debating what Katy's place is in the music industry and what she represents.

Im not saying it isn't working, I was just challenging exactly what it is shes offering and exactly why its working beyond just acknowledging that it is. And that to be light hearted carries its own twisted respect in a way and I don't respect what shes serving even for being fluff. As an example, I think Rihanna is fluff and I respect her and what she has to offer. I think Ke$ha is fluff and I like what shes had to offer. bionic 45,185
see this part i actually genuinely disagreed with, mentioning shes divorced (not a divorcee, because she shouldnt be defined by it) is so archaic, this idea that she's less than or "washed up now because a man didn't stay married to her." Disagree w/ my post? stream ritacadabra

But then one could argue that we are both biased considered the competition that's been strung up between Katy and Gaga (just bringing her into the argument cause clearly we are both fans before anyone gets panties twisted) during the last era as both their campaigns launched at similar times? I personally enjoy all the artists you mentioned and Katy's! They all fill stereotypes we need, Rihanna has her s-xy smooth sound, kesha has that trashy rebellion sound and Katy has that upbeat teenage sound. All of the pop girls have a different sound yet they are all pitted against eachother like it somes sort of battle when in reality they're all creating loveable songs that a lot of people can appreciate! Like you said a comment back, we're not going to agree on this as I enjoy Katy's music when you appearingly don't but I hope that we can agree that all of the big names in female pop (including Katy) are filling spots currently that appear to not be challenged and they are all providing music that can be appricaited by a large audience hence their achievements so far in the industry :applause:

Alcina Dimitrescu 1,156
You and other katy stans better enjoy her success while it lasts because it will end, it always does. And then she will be done. At least gaga has talent to fall back on. C2C anyone? I'm not a Katy fan, i'm not even defending her per se, just saying that kind of aesthetic is her thing :emma:

Guest
It's her choice if she wants to keep acting like a 'schoolgirl after too much soda' or keep crying over her ex husband. Who are they to tell someone to grow up? She's not harming anyone, so back off NY Post.
Benji 20,113
Only just seen the shade thrown at my first comment by users too scared to actually quote me Basically if Gaga had huge sells behind her this era and this review was posted about her the first thing you would say would feature a quote about how well she's doing anyway, just like we've always done in this fanbase. Now, I think Gaga's amazing and in a completely different league to Katy (hence why I am on Gagadaily and not Katydaily or whatever) but to tear down another artist's achievements through shallow shade is completely against what Gaga represents and what anyone who can apply themselves to something more than a brief, crappy short sentence of utter crap can feel. Like I said just upwards from this comment, all of our girls in the pop industry represent something different to all of us. Instead of seeing the other girls as competition and feeling a constant need to tear them down, how about we support and applaud them? You all seem to get hurt and offended when someone doesn't give Gaga the respect we all believe she deserves so how about we start showing respect to other artists? You can't expect to be treated differently by those who you treat badly. Respect is a two way system.

That's why lots of members label me as "whiny" and "basic", so it's good to know that we still have kind and mature members like you
