GLAMOUGAGA, thank you so much for spreading kindness and peace. I am hopeful for a peaceful Middle East in the future.

I'm hoping that Palestine can find leadership like those in other Arab countries. Saudi's , Jordanians, Lebanese , and Egyptians resort to diplomatic channels when they have concern about Israeli activities.

Hamas invites military action by their very own methods.

I can see a Free Palestinian state getting much relief help from many countries from around the world, soon as they abandon the criminalistics leadership that Hamas represents.

Exactly!

When hamas is defeated, is when there will be peace and relief.

http://news.yahoo.com/israeli-aircraft-bomb-gaza-five-palestinians-killed-074250547.html

"An Israeli military spokeswoman said the building, which collapsed completely, contained a command center belonging to Hamas militants. Local residents said it housed 44 families'

This statement exemplifies the need for neutral observers if any 'war crimes' are being committed....

I don't believe that Israeli air commanders would intentionally target civilian homes ...

also

"The Israeli military said it bombed about 20 targets across the Hamas-ruled strip, including rocket launchers and weapon caches next to schools."

and

"Indirect ceasefire talks mediated by Egypt to end the conflict collapsed after rockets were fired from Gaza during a truce and Israel responded with air strikes"

Why are rockets and mortars being launched at Isreal during a cease fire?

I don't believe that the negotiators speak for the 'freedom fighters' ... Of coarse the Palestinian people want the bombs to stop falling...

Gaza live: We will arm Palestine, says Iran as conflict spirals

This ones for you Lego - you were right, it is relevant!   :P  This is going to make things far more complicated I'm sure... Hopefully this is resolved before the Iranian government responds.

Iran has been already.... The rockets and mortar shells are Iranian... if not directly, they get to Palestine via underground networks from Iran.... State sponsored terrorism...

to play devil's advocate - how do you personally differentiate state sponsored terrorism and state sponsored defence? israel, the occupying force of that territory, gets weaponry from the US and the UK to continue (/spread) its occupation there and to reinforce stabilisation/normalisation of its occupation of the area in spite of the people who previously lived there. why's it okay in your eyes that israel can arm itself up to its teeth but not palestine?

Israel isn't attacking Palestine to take/retake land. Israel's military is keeping them alive. it, they would have been over run, murdered, expelled, deported in 1954 ...What arms Palestine employs are meant to kill any Israeli, period.

the clock doesn't start as soon as palestine fires the first rocket into israel. surely one could argue that israel is attacking palestine to keep the land that it already took from them. you could say it's not to take or retake land, but it is to keep and fortify relatively recently taken land. not much of a difference if you ask me. your tone suggests that it was okay for israel to occupy palestine in the first place in spite of the people who lived there, and if they don't like it, they don't have any option but to capitulate. because otherwise, resisting occupation is terrorism. but forcible occupation isn't, nor is heavy collective punishment against the people whose land they are occupying? i think it's pretty hard to reconcile these ideas all together at once.

If the US or the UK didn't support Israeli defense, they would be on their own against numerous enemies that had no intention of negotiating actual peace. Things have changed drastically since the 1950s, and remember this came at the tail of WWII when the great evils were done against the Jewish people. The Jewish people needed a place they could call home after so much discrimination around the world. Just look at how much antisemitism still exists in the world...

Because Israel has defended itself numerous times victoriously and after years of Camp David talks, UN talks, and negotiations with the PLO and Arab nations, it has been in a position where previous foes have soften their opposition and the ones that still want Israel gone are the extremists funded by extremists regimes. And why would the West abandon a long time ally as Israel?

On the other token, if the West and Israel did more to support the Palestinians: like the two state solution, restraint on West Bank settlements, and humanitarian aid to refugees; the Palestinian plight would be less of a propaganda tool to justify hate against Israel.

If the two state solution would move forward, both ethnic groups can occupy the land. Why must it be one or the another over such a small piece of land?

Stand in the light, cast your shadow.

Israeli air raids and artillery fire do 'respond' to rocket fire, they don't initiate the attacks...

by the tone of many pro Palestinian post, the rocket and mortar fire are perfectly acceptable methods of negotiating for land... Israel has given up captured land in the past, and yet they see no peace...

fact is, the 'attackers' use Palestine and Lebanon, and the Golan Heights, and... and... and... to kill Israeli's ... then cry like they are victims when Israel bombs those sites to prevent further attacks.

Palestine voted for Hamas in a 'free' election and promptly declared war ...

War is ****... Hamas is loosing ... and they are getting their own people killed...

The land claims and rebuilding and freedom and blockade removal and and and.... cannot proceed until the attacks cease...

It can't be said any more clearly in my mind....

right, and israel has a right to defend itself as much as palestine a right to resist the kind of occupation that was imposed on them. the creation of israel was not a peaceful idea for the record.

Things have changed drastically since the 1950s, and remember this came at the tail of WWII when the great evils were done against the Jewish people. The Jewish people needed a place they could call home after so much discrimination around the world. Just look at how much anti-semitism still exists in the world...

and do you think the creation of israel has lessened anti-semitism? now they have the arab world on their backs! now they have new generations of people, whose parents and friends were killed by israeli defence forces, who are going to in droves grow up with hatred that never would've been there in the first place. in the news, people are seeing children dying because this "jewish state" is "protecting" itself. that creates more anti-semitism. not less. is the world now safer for jews? they're getting shot at with rockets now. some help israel has done for the cause for anti-semitism.

i just don't believe in this notion at all. the jewish people did have a place they could call home - wherever they were born. like all other human beings. we have a right to live where we are born. antisemitism is an awful thing, as are all forms of prejudice, but a "jewish state" is not the solution. it is a racist idea. there can be no such thing as states for certain kinds of people in a fair world because it creates new prejudice and creates the foundations for death and destruction and disaster. and that is what has happened.

i say this as someone who was born and lives in a partitioned state, a state created for a certain kind of people. i know the effects of this. i know about the deaths and i've been surrounded by the prejudice and i've felt the explosions first hand and it does not work. it has been the backdrop of my upbringing. if black and white states would not work in south africa, jewish states cannot work in palestine. we need to learn to live together, not section ourselves off, especially not against the will of the people who already live on that land (and then claim further victim status when the idea that was imposed is not accepted - that is another inevitability).

If the two state solution would move forward, both ethnic groups can occupy the land. Why must it be one or the another over such a small piece of land?

because it is not entirely just whichever way you slice it. i don't believe in partitioning small pieces of land, especially when it consists of an imposition by another. the people should be united in a single state called israel-palestine or palestine-israel. but that's just my view as someone who lives in a partitioned state where the people ought to be united and not continually segregated. partition is a blight.

But the Arabs saw the creation of Israel as Illegal: think about it, do you think it's ok if we took Afghan or Iraqi refugees and decided to make them a country in the US or Europe?....arabs rejected the partition plan at that time and Israel and its allies accepted it unilaterally, which if course will lead to a conflict. Maybe if Israel was left on her own they would value peace and  there wouldn't be so much violence today.
