Mandatory Palestine was a British state, or as was called under British administration, look at its official languages back then, Hebrew is one of them. Jewish religion appeared thousands of years before Islam, and that territory happened to be sacred for ancient jews, they never left that territory, but got living with christians and muslims over time, it's just that jews were a minority and happened to travel a lot on business. The fact the area was known as Palestine means nothing as for this days so called Palestinian people, as their national movement gained momentum only years after Israel was established. British colonization you mean? :) Yes there were jews there, as well as Christian, but the majority were Muslims.
