France restricting the human right of freedom of speech is a human rights violation. They deserve to be bashed for this The United States of America! Land of the free. Get guns so you can have guns and not kill people, and ehh... what else do they have? oh yeah! Freedom of speech! Um I rather live in a country where my neighbor can easily by a high capacity semi-automatic rifle and be able to speak my mind than live in one where I can't protest peacefully. I mean ever wondered why people like the Westboro Baptist Church or racism in any kind can't be found in bigger extend in (Western) Europe ? Because it's illegal and with that it is a restriction of freedom of speech. Freedom of Speech can be violated and is not always a good thing. Freedom of speech is not a human right. Restricted Freedom of Speech is a human right, but not full freedom of speech. And also this: They didn't ban pro-Palestine demonstrations! Incorrect, misleading title! The article clearly says : "Anyone who turns up to an illegal demonstration now faces up to a year in prison, and a 15,000 euro fine." They use arguments like "what if they're carrying weapons under it?" or "you can't even see whether it's a male or a female" against burqas. It'll make headlines and stuff and basically, that's not good for the government. The problem is that if they allow those protests and that there are fights, they'll be responsible; but if they make those protests illegal, people will accuse them of not respecting freedom of speech. No matter what the government does, there'll be complaints. However, I don't think it's normal to forbid those demonstrations. People should have the right to protest, no matter what their ideas are (see the latest anti-gay demonstrations.
