Have any of you had to get up each night at 3am to change diapers, feed a baby and trying to calm it down because it won't stop crying? Combine that with everythign a non-parent has to be concerned about 24/7 - going to job/finding a job, money, putting food on the table everyday, bills, taxes. It just drives you crazy cuz there is no break, you get sleep deprivation etc. so it doesn't suprise me how a parent MAY forget his child. I've heard countless stories like that, parents are just so tired and stressed out, they forget. Of course it doesn't always lead to tragedies like this and just to clarify i am in no way defending him or trying to justify actions, I'm just kind of shocked at your reactions. As if parents are not humans and they are not going to EVER make a mistake, because they are literally putting all of their energy in taking care of their baby, raising it and at the same time taking care of themselves. That man is probably already suffering a much worse punishment than any prison sentence. Think of when you do something really stupid that is minor and how horrible you feel about it, and then imagine that thing being your child dying because of you. The brain sees no difference between forgetting a coffee and forgetting a child in a car. This isn't some crackhead who left a baby in the car on purpose to go shopping for fake gucci bags. And locking him in prison? What is that supposed to solve? Prison is for people who are a danger to society, is this man a danger? No, what this man needs, is to be provided with intense inpatient psychological help so that he doesn't have a mental breakdown and lose his sanity or kill himself. Prison will not help him. Not one bit. He's made his own prison that will be far worse then any prison he can be put in. Somebody needs to look up the definition of murder. :reductive: You seriously can't be comparing the importance of a child to a coffee. Forgetting to pick up your coffee in the morning isn't gonna end someone's life, but leaving your toddler in a hot car for 7 hours will. I agree it isn't murder, but it's certainly child neglect and it resulted in what could've been a long and fulfilling life. Yeah it was his child but let's not act like he's the victim in this situation. I think his son went through a little worse. Parents have RESPONSIBILITIES. You keep bringing up things like coffee and keys etc but at the end of the day if you have a person in your care you are supposed to CARE for them. What if I was babysitting for someone's 3 year old daughter and I left her alone outside with a vicious dog and I simply forgot to let her back inside? Everyone forgives me when she's killed and we all go home? What if I leave my baby alone in the bath for half an hour, I come back and he's drowned? Woops, I forgot. Sorry everyone, don't blame me. Yes, I'm sure he's heartbroken, and yes it's a huge tragedy for everyone involved, and yes he didn't mean it. But at the end of the day he wasn't being a responsible parent and this is what happens when you're careless, and frankly stupid. He's already been 'punished' enough by losing his child due to an accident, and has to live the rest of his life with the pain and guilt knowing that because of his forgetfulness his child is dead because of him. well, on the one hand i sympathise that it was an mistake and did not intend for that to happen.
